I bought a system from gamestop that had just been brought in. It still had one of the crappy iron-on adhesive decals. They didn't try to tell me that it was a refurb though.
I did get a gc controller that was 1st party and came in a nintendo bag that said it had been refurbished by nintendo. If you get something like that, it's probably a better bet than just some stuff jumbled in a cardboard box.

They actually keep the disc's up front so people won't steel them. You shouldn't be mad as they made it right by giving you another console. I have purchased many used games and a used Dreamcast and have never had an issue with their service or products. with that said, remember Gamestop is a chain and maybe the one you went did not have as good service, who know.
For one thing, my gamestop has been terrible for over a decade, back when it was FuncoLand. They seem to hire nothing but egotistical nerds. It's always been a total shit game store but it's the only one in the city now that they demolished the mall that used to have EB, which I loved. Really nice people worked there.retro_gammer79 wrote:They actually keep the disc's up front so people won't steel them. You shouldn't be mad as they made it right by giving you another console. I'm mad because I had to make a second trip, and it's a bit of a drive into a crappy neighborhood. Also their hours didn't go well with my job schedule, so it just made it that much more of an annoyance. If they got it right the first time, it would have been fine.
Anyways that disc thing is no excuse. They should just keep all the sealed games in the back. A customer brings up the display box and they go fetch a sealed copy. When the sealed copies are out, they take down the display box so no more customers will be expecting to buy it. It would just make more sense.
Seems I've struck a nerve. Like I said, I've never had a problem with them personally, but I know those who have, so I wasn't sure. There is a difference between something that has been officially refurbished, and something that was tested once and simply being labeled as such. Based on what I've heard, I think I'll skip it and try the locally owned place, where I at least will be able to haggle over the price. Thanks for the replies.

Glad we could all help, lol.
The gamestops/ebGames in my area keep display boxes out for new and used and have the sealed ones behind the counter as well.
As far as refurb goes, my experience is that they don't even CLEAN the consoles/controllers you get. I believe its mostly a case of testing for playability and they guarantee its ability for a short time.
I bought a ps2 slim there a year ago and it looked like someone rubbed snack crumbs all over the controller it was a mess. so i payed the extra ten dollars for a new one.
