Gamestop: Refurbished vs Used?
Gamestop: Refurbished vs Used?
Not really sure where this question should go, so I'm putting it here. Does anyone know if Gamestop's refurbished consoles are actually refurbs, or just used consoles that have been cleaned up? I've had good luck with buying games from them, but I know quite a few people who haven't, and I'd like to be sure before I put down that much money for a system . Thanks for any responses, and sorry if this question has been posted before.
Refurbished typically means they do something to in an attempt to clean/fix things to make it like new.

Used generally means as is and has not had any replacement parts. Refurbished is technically the same thing. However, it could have had and issues and was fixed with replacement parts or not. The good thing about some thing being a refurb VS used is that the seller test it to death to make sure that it is fully functional. Legally any item in a store that has been opened and reload, has to have a refurb sticker on it, simply because it was opened. Now here is the good vs bad thing about it. Gamestop garentees the item is fully working as per their website. So if you take it home and it does not work, then you can return it. The bad thing is that if you have a store or place that does not test their returned items, which is possible but rarely happens. Here is the good part. Lets, say they are selling a used Dreamcast. You buy it and it's a first Gen model and the owner didn't take good care of it. A year of using it the motor on their CDROM goes bad, you have to get it fixed or buy a new one. Now lets say they are selling a refurb one, it had a failed motor for the cdrom and now it is fixed and will run for many years now. In a nutshell, refurb = issues with it have been fixed.
I've got many experiences but the latest one was the $30 gamecube I bought. It came with a third party av cable, third party controller with shitty sticks and 2 extra buttons beside the start button that had no apparent function (and made hitting start a little tricky in a rush). The gamecube itself had a black bottom and a purple top, so you know someone was swapping parts. It had tons of heavy scratches, some dirt, and about 3 solid chunks of plastic shell that were broken off. It played a perfect condition game for a while and then gave me a DRE. I went back up there and started some shit. He fetched another couple boxes and began swapping out the console and accessories to give me the best combination he could. That shit was just retarded. Gamestop has no quality assurance.marurun wrote:I'm not sure I'd trust GameStop to refurbish anything.
And don't even get me started on how they sell "new" games that aren't sealed, because they have to take the discs out and hide them in the back.
