Genny carts are too small to fit in it, they just fall over
Genny boxes both plastic and cardboard don't fit, or just fall out.
CD cases are too small to be held by the grooves.
Sega CD cases are far too large.

I'm at a loss as to it's use.
Perhaps another pic with a Jewel, DVD and Genesis cases placed for a size comparison. Agree with Anthony, Its gotta be something Sega Genesis related, maybe import cases are a different size?

Without visual comparisons, my guess is that it is for holding the game and the manual while vertical.

Visual comparision. The Jewel case just falls over. However the large slots on the sides fit a genesis hard case perfectly. Nothing else though. Excuse the dust, these were all in storage.

How do the carts fit when lying horizontally in the slots?

That bare cart is so close, maybe a defect in the shelf? Anyone know if Japanese or Europe carts are slightly larger?

That sonic cart looks like it'd fit perfectly if it was laid in horizontally instead of vertically to me. Or is that just an odd perspective thing? The extra height left over in this way could be to allow for the EA tall carts.

Yeah, but it says GENESIS on the shelf. If it were meant to fit import carts, wouldn't it say Megadrive?

I still don't think the ridges are for anything. I think the games are just supposed to sit on top of them.

Can the games (in the cases) stay in the shelf without falling over? If so, maybe the shelf was designed so that the games stick out, letting you read the spines of the games.
