*On a side note* So I guess nothing is considered a problem anymore unless it's happening on a grand scale? If you live in a town where someone gets shot everyday - hey, not a big problem.. people get shot everyday in other parts of the world right? But if you live in that same town where suddenly dozens of people are getting shot everyday then it's something to worry about.. now it's a news story?? That's messed up.
You can't really compare taking the life a human being to a console failure..

I keep my PS3 offline because I just want to play and not download updates and patches. My gaming time is limited and precious.
Nobody should have to worry about downloading updates. If you do, that should honestly tell you something.
Yeah, it tells me you worry to much. I don't worry about firmware updates. Anyone who does is getting themselves worked up and worried for nothing. I don't update due to my slow internet and limited playtime. I really think your getting fired up over nothing. The chances of you have a issue is very very small. If it bothers you that much sell you PS3. Its been a known fact that theres a risk when updating any devices firmware.

I'm not. I'm referring to how people nowadays wait till it's happening on a large scale or happening right in their own backyard to say that something is a problem. Kinda like the whole HIV/AIDS epidemic in the 80's... all these people saying "it'll never happen to me." Then it does happen and it's like.. "well gosh, I guess this AIDS thing is a problem."

Yeah, wait till it's too late. Good strategy

 Now you're just being fatuous.

It is in no way a big problem if a handful of peoples consoles break after a firmware update, because this is guaranteed to happen with every device capable of updating it's firmware every time a new firmware update is released. Older consoles are more susceptible to problems because of the wear and tear that comes from use and the generally crappy build quality of this generation. These are the reasons why no sites are reporting on this. Because it's not a problem. I can't explain myself in terms any simpler than that.

I know this has been mentioned already, but there really does need to be a way to roll back your firmware.

Oh, right.. "it only does everything!" So I guess break down would be another one of those things which it's supposed to do. I get it
