Here We Go Again. More Screwy PS3 Firmware Updates
*Make sure to read both pages of these post complaints*

This is why I still haven't bought a PS3. Doesn't anybody test these updates before release?

Re: Here We Go Again. More Screwy PS3 Firmware Updates
You do realize that hundreds of thousands of people download these firmware updates, right?
And, despite that, you don't hear about hundreds of thousands of people getting their system bricked. Yes, a lot of people get screwed, but I'm pretty sure it's far from even 1% of the user-base.
You seem to be making mountains out of mole hills. Things fuck up. This is the world we live in. For what it's worth, my PS3 is kicking just fine. The only system I've had to get repaired is my Wii, and despite the high cost of it (It was close to $125 for both the repairs and the shipping), I didn't swear off the Wii for the rest of my existence. Shit happens.

So I guess that makes it alright then? Just like when they removed backwards compatibility, then removed the ability to install other OS's, then disabled many USB devices, etc etc.. ? That's all ok huh?the7k wrote:You do realize that hundreds of thousands of people download these firmware updates, right?

What's next - disable the fucking Blu Ray player?

I see. Even though I mentioned nothing about the removal of BC (which was entirely voluntary - you can still use it if you have BC unit, so it's not a good grounds for arguing anything anyway), Other OS or certain USB devices, you'll put all that into my mouth in order to make me look wrong and thus you look right.Weekend_Warrior wrote:So I guess that makes it alright then? I never excused any of that. Never. You're just putting words into my mouth. Unless Sony intentionally makes these firmware updates with the expressed purpose of bricking systems for no apparent reason, this has absolutely nothing to do with any of the crap you just listed.
It's a technical issue. Not a feature take-away. Other systems have their share of those too, like the original Xbox 360's notorious failure rate & disc-scratching (technical issue) and Microsoft's decision to kill all support for third-party memory devices (feature take-away). Technical issues are an inevitability, feature rollbacks are not.
Nice try, though.

Whuh oh! Better not update my PS3. I hope it doesn't do it automatically when I turn it on. I wanted to play some PS3 this weekend while i'm home.

Re: Here We Go Again. More Screwy PS3 Firmware Updates
I will never update my PS3 again. I wouldn't want to risk bricking my system by trying to remove features.
Lose/lose situation? No thank you. I will continue to use my PS3 as a streaming media device and a PS2 upscaler. I have given up entirely on buying PS3 games, Sony. You have proven to me numerous times that you cannot be trusted.

Re: Here We Go Again. More Screwy PS3 Firmware Updates
Jesus, talk about overreacting.
You do realise that with every firmware update, there's a possibility that it'll brick the machine - I've read complaints from peoples whose 360's, Wii's, PSP's, iPhones, etc have bricked on firmware update, but the way you guys are going on you'd think this is a PS3-exclusive problem.
Also, the guy in that topic got the RLoD, which probably would have happened to him anyway, regardless of firmware updates. Sucks, but that's the build quality of this generation for you.

I agree, i'm not mad about it, I'll just avoid updating until it gets fixed.Bootaaay wrote:Jesus, talk about overreacting.
