That wasn't caused by updates, sir. Wrong thread
Not the wrong thread, it doesn't even need updates to RROD.. And it's around 100 times more likely to occur..
We're not comparing consoles here. We're talking about screwy PS3 updates

Cronson wrote: Yeah I have the older fat model. I do sort of worry every time I update it. I had the YLOD 1 year and 1 day after I purchased it, contacted Sony and they fixed it even though it was out of warranty (thank the Lord). I feel like my super awesome 500gb model with BC is going to brick up some day, sucks.
To the others - This is what I'm talking about.

Check the backlog on the PlayStation message board, every time an update is released people lose some or all functionality of their older PS3's. This is definitely a big issue

Installing a big update.. sure, maybe something could go wrong, a few bugs.. whatever. But installing a small firware update that's only supposed to increase system security? Give me a break. There's something very wrong with that

Screwy updates that rarely occur.. I just don't think this thread is worth complaining about.. Every firmware update has a chance for failure.. Try visiting the apple forums sometime..

Why do I get the feeling that all you do here is troll PS3 and 360 discussions?

Then why are you on here complaining???

If it doesn't affect you, then fine/bye/later/seeya/thanks for coming.

But to many others.. it's something to be aware of. It's still an issue regardless, even if you think it's a small one

It's really not. When you see all the major news sites posting stories such as "Widespread reports of PS3 firmware update bricking old-model PS3's", then it'll be a big issue. At the moment it's just a handful of unlucky people, the same with every single firmware update.

Also, FYI; 40gb fat PS3 here, updated and working fine. Just like thousands and thousands of others post-update.

Well I'm just saying the majority of the responses here have been arguments against this.. I guess this is something to be aware of and if it's occurring frequently with launch models then I feel bad for those people.. Other than the Wii, this generation is pretty notorious for hardware failures..

No. Because this has been happening over a long period of time. It hasn't all happened at once.

*On a side note* So I guess nothing is considered a problem anymore unless it's happening on a grand scale? If you live in a town where someone gets shot everyday - hey, not a big problem.. people get shot everyday in other parts of the world right? But if you live in that same town where suddenly dozens of people are getting shot everyday then now it's something to worry about? Now it's a news story?? That's messed up.
