Have you ever tried starting a retro gaming thread on a music forum? It goes about as well.Arbitern1 wrote:I guess we just all end up talking about the same things. Nobody can talk about music on this forum as i have found out lulz. The attitude of some of the older members on the community can make it more intimidating to pull a topic out of nowhere. It probably seems easier to chip in on what the older members say.

I definitely agree. I'm a hardware/tech junkie so I love those threads, but you shouldn't just dismiss all the tech threads. You can find out cool stuff, but also, might really help you out one day. You might get a problem with one of your systems, but already know what to do. Something stupid like an easy fix that anyone can do, but you just wouldn't know about it otherwise.ZeroAX wrote:BTW don't ditch on those technical threads. You can learn a lot of cool stuff from them. For example I had no idea that there existed a thing like that PS1 cable, nor that plenty of games supported it.
If you're into retro consoles, then you really should be into maintaining/repairing them. I'm not saying everyone needs to fully understand electronics, but learn some basic things about the retro consoles. How to clean them, how to change batteries, what to do if xxx happens, et cetera.

Forum didn't seem slow lately to me honestly. Of course this isn't the only place I frequent.

Well not everybody likes retro gaming. Everybody for the most part likes music.

Patricia Tannis doesn't like music. Though I think the researching and loneliness is starting to get to her.Arbitern1 wrote:Well not everybody likes retro gaming. Everybody for the most part likes music.

A community is only as good as its members, so contribute what you want to see and hopefully others will respond in kind. When I get bored of the board, I make a thread about the kind thing I want to see more of. I wanted to be able to talk with people about games we are all playing at the same time, so I made a thread about a free game every day throughout December. I'm having tons of fun with that thread and the discussion it is generating.

Also, discussion forums are basically subject to the interests of the majority. If majority wants to talk about tech problems or just comparisons between consoles, then that's going to be on top most of the time. It's a perfectly fair system.
It's not really a crappy deal because everybody's given a chance to promote something that is interesting to him - just start a new thread or revive an old topic (this is why I don't get the blanket hatred for thread necromancy in other forums. It has its uses. Much rather to keep reviving threads than making a new one every time the old one gets pushed back to the archives).
If what interests you failed to gather steam then that could mean that your preferences are not really THAT interesting to the world at large, or you're not a very good conversationalist/discussion-starter.

There are tons of articles under the small font View Active Posts. I don't know why this link isn't in big bold letters and maybe also in the Home page to reduce repeat discussions.
Everyone has their favorite discussion subject and deem other posts that are boring. A good point by JT, instigating a new post about an area you have an interest in. Just be sure to check View Active Posts to avoid a rehash of a given topic.
Threads I love:
Mods, Guides and the whole Garage section
Video Game Finds of the Day
Off Topic/Whatever
Reviews
Threads I hate:
Tell me how to spend my money.
Tell me what game to play next.
Which console is better or the PC vs Mac debates.
Interest Check. Post the price if you want to sell dammit.
