I've noticed I've been posting less and less on this website. One big reason is because all the new threads on the main page are almost always just trading or technical help.
I know that if I dug into the forums I could find a thread to discuss topics in, but I sometimes don't have time and I just quickly glance at the main page.
Let's take a look at the main page right now:
Playstation link.
I Made a Self-Boot Dreamcast guide
What Video Card Should I Get?
Saturn vs. N64 FIGHT!
Panzer dragoon saga won't boot on my mod chipped saturn?
Sega Saturn Import System, Accessories & Games
Hooking up a Sega CD 2 to speakers. Help!
Help me identify this GBC game (Herzog-related?)
Ninja's Secret Dojo Sale {Updated: 12/5}
Good saturn 2d platformers?
There's like nothing on here that interests me to dig in and discuss. It's as if all the good thread ideas have already been made somewhere.
I dunno, maybe it's just me. Anyone else feel this way?

Re: Discussion vs. Helping and Trading
I think it's one of the drawbacks to any "retro" community. At some point, there are no new old things to discuss. After that it boils down to rehashing old topics, or discussing collections, repairs, and special projects. Even this topic will probably be discussed again later.

Re: Discussion vs. Helping and Trading
So start a discussion then. Don't just use the 'most recent discussions' on the main page either. Click on the forum link and at least into the sections likely to contain things that interest you. Hit topics you want to, then click on the 'mark forum read' to clear the stuff you didn't care to look at so you only see topics iwth new posts next time. I don't understand how so many people seem to only look at the recent discussion things on the front page and feel like they're really using the forum. I assume that's why people make so many duplicate posts like "OMG MY SATURN BURNS DON'T WORK" since you'd see a lot of stuff even without using the search.

Thank god you didn't visit the site during an add bot spam of doom (cheap iphone cheap ipad ect. ect.) cause god knows how disappointed you'd be with the forum then
Now seriously dude, all online communities pass through different phases. Some times people don't have a lot of time to spend on writing huge ass threads to talk about something complex (I've been wanting to make one thread like that, but I only have free time after midnight, and then I end up writing hurt instead of heart and so I just give up on it
), like you know, close to Christmas. Other times cool new members join, or some old members log in to see what's happening and they reignite an old thread.
Plus we are a retro game community. Besides new video games, every day someone finds a new hidden gem which will be the spark for a wonderful conversation about how good the game is and why, and everyone will want to try the game out as well.
Plus more and more stuff becomes "retro" everyday
. Hey the gamecube kind of feels retro to me right now
. And if the Gamecube isn't there yet, the launch titles of the GBA feel very retro to me right now (I still remember Advance Wars being pushed back in Europe cause of 11/9).
BTW don't ditch on those technical threads. You can learn a lot of cool stuff from them. For example I had no idea that there existed a thing like that PS1 cable, nor that plenty of games supported it.

It's not just retro stuff either. You know we'll talk about newer stuff too. Except Call of Duty and Halo.

Close to Christmas is freakin' right. Between work, school, and getting ready for the holidays, I don't have a lot of time for posting. (I'm sure others are feeling the same way). Once the holiday stresses are over I expect there to be some interesting topics popping up.ZeroAX wrote:Some times people don't have a lot of time to spend on writing huge ass threads to talk about something complex [...] like you know, close to Christmas.
Give it some time, slowslow... Or just post a new topic yourself
