it's not what I want to see, it's just that I don't want to just assume anything. Most likely you're right, but just in case I thought I'd investigate a little.elmagicochrisg wrote:
As for the sprites, they are just the same. I think it's more a matter of what you want to see...

There's also always the question of 'why does this photograph exist'?
I mean, even if this is a fake it's got to have been made for a reason. Cui Bono, right? I honestly wouldn't be surprised if this was a proof of concept picture. The only thing that bothers me about it is that the GBC looks damn near back lit.

That might work but we're talking about a potential game that might have been made nearly 2 decades ago...and that's assuming that technosoft wouldn't have been farming out the development to another firm and just reaping licensing fees off the games name. There's no guarantee that you'd be able to get a reliable answer.I'm sure with a little perseverance from your side they will eventually reply to you or give you a link to someone that can help you. Or contact Nintendo and ask them.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

It's just a half assed paste job. Look at the way the top menus are cut off. Also, anyone that has used any of these magnifiers on a GB knows they don't look that good if you're looking straight at them. Looking at an angle like that? It would be a bent disaster. The colors are just off because this was probably a a 2 inch wide picture in a magazine so the artifacts from printing and scanning made it look funky.

Why would someone want to do this, though?

Because sometime art departments are lazy, working around things that don't work in real life, or are up against a deadline. Think about the Okami cover screwup. An art director asked for a mockup of a magnifier. Taking a photo doesn't work because those magnifiers didn't work very well and wouldn't work at all at that angle. All Virtual Boy screenshots were fake too since you can't photograph them well. So someone just grabbed a random (or obscure) screenshot and threw it together.Flake wrote:Why would someone want to do this, though?

I don't think it is. I mean, of all games, why would they pick that one?elmagicochrisg wrote: And there you have it. Mystery solved...
It's at least worth looking into it.

so the mystery is solved because of Hobie's opinion? (No offense Hobie) Again, I agree that it's pretty probable that this was a fake. But I don't quite think anything is "solved." Flake's question is good. Why does the picture exist? Why not a screen shot from any of the actual existing GBC games? It's odd.elmagicochrisg wrote:And there you have it. Re: Help me identify this GBC game (Herzog-related?)
Maybe the person putting it together liked Herzog Zwei and snuck it in as a joke. Maybe they just happened to have the screenshot handy. Unless someone can track down the company that sold the item and/or assembled the ad and then stalk them to see if they even remember some little ad they made 11 years ago, I think you guys are just gonna drive yourself nuts with your conspiracy theory. It's just a Photoshop disaster.noiseredux wrote:so the mystery is solved because of Hobie's opinion? (No offense Hobie) Again, I agree that it's pretty probable that this was a fake.
