Help me identify this GBC game (Herzog-related?)

Post by noiseredux »

spotted this game in an ad in an old issue of Pocket Gamer (actually issue #1). The ad is just using the game to show off a screen magnifier, so there's no caption to tell you what it is. Would be from 1999 I guess. Looks like an awesome shmup. And it could be a European release perhaps. I've searched and searched but can never figure it out.

Damn that looks so familiar...

You're certain it was released?
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

no I'm not. It does look really familiar to me too. Maybe a port of a NES game that never came out?

That's Herzog Zwei for the Genesis, not a GBC game. Look at this video and notice the border in between both players.

yr right, it does seem to be Herzog Zwei. However compare the graphics -- it definitely looks 8-bit not 16. Is it possible there was a GBC port in the works????

Off to google!

Holy damn, that DOES look like Herzog Zwei. Was there a port planned at some point?

I honestly think it's just a printing error or one of the editors screwing around. Did Techno-Soft do any portable games, or anything for Nintendo beyond Thunder Spirits? Plus the weaker graphics I think is just bad printing by the magazine, not a port. A GBC port would have weaker graphics and less colors, that looks like a fuzzier Genesis version in play. Just my two cents.

This made me take another look at the pic. The screen of the GBC beneath the magnifier is way too bright. A modification or a mock-up?
