From what I've read, there were plans for a 32X version, but that never happened. The company that created it, Technosoft, was bought out around 2001, so it's unknown who currently had the rights. This could have been just a marketing ploy using an older game.

but I don't think it is a cut and paste, that's why I'm so curious. Comparing the look of the GBC pic to screens of the Genesis version, it genuinely looks like different sprites.

Believe it or not, there's plenty of canceled/unreleased GBC/GBA games out there that might surprise you.

The blocks that divide the screen seem noticeably longer in the 'GBC' version.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?
