My biggest problem with Brokencyde and the like is whoever is exploiting them. Sure, teens are going to be drawn to music glamorizing drinking, drugs, money, and sex, but filtering it thru some actual talent can result in listenable music. To me, Brokencyde and the like is the musical equivalent of randomly throwing paint at a wall and calling it art. Theres no challenge in selling booze and whoring to teenagers, whoever is behind these groups are taking advantage of that, and that shallowness is reflected in the product.
Getting fucked up and banging bitches IS fun, but it's irresponsible to shove a canned image down kid's throats at a time when developing your own unique personality is so crucial. And if you and your buddies want to make obnoxious screamy raps about it, great. But when it's crudely commercialized like this, it loses all legitimacy.
That maybe be true, but the Dead Kennedy's and Minor Threat were formed in response to the popular culture while Brokencyde seems to be just taking advantage of what everyone already likes and making it even more ridiculous.
Either way, they can make whatever music for as long as they want. Doesn't effect me because I wont be buying any of their records ever. In order for there to be good bands, there must be terrible bands.
