I was 4 when the 80s ended. So I don't think my love for 80s things has anything to do with nostalgia. Maybe a little bit since a lot of things from the 80s still existed or carried over into the 90s, like movies and videogames for example. But I think the 80s was probably the best decade for movies we've had. And the music was great.

Snares with reverb? hihats all over the place? etc
You're making too much of a blanket statement, and not giving enough specific examples.

If you think the mainstream music today is better produced and sounds better, then a flat billed Justin Beiber hat with a sticker and a price tag on it is off in your honor. I'll take When Doves Cry/Thriller/Lucky Star/RUN DMC/etc. over any of today's pop music.

i love the 80s. the music. the cartoons. the movies. the videogames. i love it! 8)

while most of today music (not all) sucks. the lyrics of the 80s music is far more better than today's nonsense (especially with the hip hop these days). cartoon these days also sucks (and bunch of cartoon remakes sucks as well). though i will make an exception to SpongeBob.

No, but any qotsa album sounda better than whatever rock album you pick up from the 80's.
The last two albums from The Cure sound better than his best albums in the 80's (altho the late songs are worse...), Ladytron sounds better than a Human League cassette, etc.

RUN DMC doesnt count. Theyre timeless. I mean, I wouldnt attach them to what people understand as "80's sound".

But whatever, maybe its a kind of tastes.

There's certainly more music now than ever before, but mainstream music is simply piss poor. Indie movies as well as global cinema have flourished over the past 10-15 years, giving us alternatives to Hollywood contemporary tripe. The eighties as a period will always be special, but it was never perfect.

If you're not aware there's plenty of new music that's best described as 80s fetishism, as well as a few movies, mostly comedy, set in that era.

I can agree with that, but I feel some of that Hollywood contemporary tripe was quite enjoyable. Then again, I've enjoyed quite a few films from the 1980s:

Blade Runner
3 Indiana Jones films
Back to the Future
Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters 2
Terminator
Aliens
Predator
Conan the Barbarian
Red Sonja
Commando
The Running Man
Breakin
Gremlins
Beverly Hills Cop
Labyrinth
Critters
The Land Before Time
Batman
The Thing
UHF
Beetlejuice
First Blood
To Live and Die in L.A.
48 Hours
Short Circuit
Leviathan
The Golden Child
Lethal Weapon
E.T.
Raging Bull
Ran
Who Framed Roger Rabbit
The Abyss
The Dark Crystal
Dead Poets Society
Taps
Willow
Flight of the Navigator
The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi

All of these(and many more) appeared between 1980 and 1989. Sure, there's lots of garbage, but there are a lot of classics that left major imprints on their genres.

It seems I didn't phrase it adequately, what I meant was that today's Hollywood tripe can be bettered by efforts elsewhere, something which in the 80s was almost undreamed of. Granted, the odd movie can be entertaining, brilliant even, but filmmaking has been steadily going downhill, and few remakes are genuinely better than the originals.

Good movies did flop in the 80s as well, but thankfully home video helped them resurface and get the recognition they deserved.

The 70's were the best by far (at least as far as music and fashion are concerned)

No one has yet mentioned that the 80's was the last decade to see much wood-grain used in electronics and cars. I miss wood grain...
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?
