On PC there are also the Opposing Force and Blue Shift expansions which are good. Not as good as the main game, but still worth playing and you see glimpses of the other bits which is fun.

Don't get me wrong I love HL1+2 but unless Gabe is shooting for a world record in cliffhangers I don't think all this fanfare is warranted. If Ep 3 comes fine if not the world will still be here.
IIRC, the story is already worked out as there's some sort of "Half-Life Bible" at Valve HQ.

There is? Hmmm, I reckon Ep 3 will end with a cliffhanger teasing another psuedo-vapourware sequel. Is there sadism involved at Valve HQ?

Ok, I modified the statement in the wrong direction...

Half Life - Awesome
Opposing Force - Really good
Blue Shift - Pretty good and upgrades models and textures for the original game and OpFor

So best to just buy all 3 at the same time, like one of these:

I liked playing as Barney. I also liked surfing on his head in the original game so he wouldnt shoot me in the back of the head.
