I just beat Half Life 2 episode 2 and...

Post by J T »

... and now I see why everyone is so upset that episode 3 hasn't been released yet! I mean, I like the Half Life games and felt that it deserved a third episode, but ugh, what a cliffhanger! It was almost traumatizing to watch. It's cruel to leave the audience hanging for so long!

It seems like Valve is just leaving their core fans hanging by not releasing another Half Life for so long. I'm glad that they're making Portal 2, but I get the impression that instead of making Portal: Still alive and Left 4 Dead 2, they could have bumped up their efforts on half life 3.

Indeed. Episode 2 was all sorts of evil. Several close calls and then a sucker punch when you weren't expecting it.

Agreed; I beat this episode so long ago when it came out. Episode 2 was really good and the ending was pretty intense... leaving you wanting the next iteration. That was 2 years and 4 months ago; I wish they would hurry up and either get Ep 3 out or start Half Life 3 from there :D

I'm not as in love with the HL series as some people, but I do admit episode 2's ending was an effective shocker(not to mention a rather gruesome scene) and I'm rather surprised that they still haven't released an episode 3 yet

It does seem that all they care about is Portal now

Perhaps the people at Valve want to develop and promote new ips, cause the franchise could be over with Half Life 3, so they don't want to be left without a good bread winner when the series is over?

Only thing that makes sense to me.

Play them all in Synergy with a friend or two. That is my goal now. We were playing them independantly to get the acheivements and talking on voice chat, but then two of us played most of Episode 2 in coop, that was awesome. Car parts suck though... I need to learn how to surf again.

Yeah, that final car level in Episode 2 where you have to defend the base from incoming Striders while waves of hunters are knocking you down and stealing your lunch money is brutal! I stopped playing for a few months because I got stuck on that level. I only recently got determined enough to beat it. I was happy to finally complete and then BOOM in come the weird bug things, wreak havoc, and credits roll. It was actually a really well done scene, I just want to see the continuation of the story now. It must really suck for those of you that have been waiting years. I still have Lost Coast to and Half Life: Source to hold me over until they get around to episode 3.

I don't really mind Valve working on their other IPs though. Portal was phenomenal and I'm looking forward to seeing GLaDOS return. I also really like Left4Dead 2 and have been playing that recently. So, can't complain too much, but they need Episode 3 to come out at some point. They already had one of the main voice actors die this year (Robert Culp, voice of Dr. Wallace Breen). Hopefully the rest of the cast stays healthy.
