Games are meant to be fun.

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

?? Grammatically there's nothing wrong with anything I've written, question marks are full stops too.

I have no clue. I just thought that "games are meant to be fun" was a completely obvious observation.

Which was partly to point of the thread. If you asked someone if a video game was meant to be fun, they'd say yea, but they'd still turn around and say using a game genie is pointless or whatever.

I kind of agree with that statement. If you're buying a game just to use a GameShark or Game Genie, you're defeating the purpose of the game. There's nothing wrong with cheating, but to just play through the game with cheats perplexes me.
If you pop in a game and start laughing out loud for hours on end based on how bad it is, it's a good game.
No, it's still a bad game, it's just that you were able to have fun with it.

In fact, I think there are instances where a good game has been ruined because too much emphasis was put on making the game fun to the detriment of the storyline and atmosphere. Schindler's list is not a fun movie, but it is very good. Video games should be able to do the same. It can lack fun as long as it is still engaging.
Could you list some examples of games that aren't fun but still good?

People actually letting reviews decide for them.....is pathetic. I mean, sure you can get a good idea of the game, and only rent, but when you let something like Meta[Asswipe]Critic form your tastes I don't even listen to you. So yeah, fun and all. :D

Hear, hear!

As long as you are having fun with whatever game you've chosen to play, however you've chosen to play it. That's really all that matters at the end of the day. Whenever someone tells me that cheats ruin the game, (or some other ethical/moral stance I have no interest in sharing) I simply have no interest in talking to them anymore. Don't shove your opinion down my throat, I'm having fun in my own way. That's part of what makes gaming so great, what's fun for me is not necessarily fun for you. How many entertainment forms are there that are THAT flexible?

As long as it's fun for everyone. It's not fun if you go by typical Pokemon tier rules and your opponent has fun by using all Ubers. Although, then it becomes fun when they're disqualified. :P

I'd say EvE is this way. I don't necessarily have fun playing it, but I understand it's a good game. The ongoing development of an entirely player driven universe can be exceedingly frustrating at times, yet I'm fascinated by what the game can do. And it does have its moments. I don't think JT means that the game can't be fun at all, it's just not fun all the time.

I also think there's a difference between what JT sees as a game and what other sees. I've noticed JT has taken some interesting opinions on artsy games and is interested in how the medium itself can be used, not necessarily limiting his view to how awesome a round of Mega Man can be, but not trying to exclude that awesome fun that Slowslow325 is after in his gaming.
