Hm..
Maybe this is a good point to ask a question that haunts me since... forever xD
What is so good about Halo?
I mean. I played it for about 2 hours... after that I shutdown my Mac cause it was too boring...-.-
Many people say its cool, because there is one scene where extremely many fiends come on to you and you have unlimited munition and can kill them all...-.-
So that doesnt answer my question...-.-

Halo brought First Person Shooter to the general juvenile gamer who doesn't have the urge enough to go as far as playing a PC FPS. It's easy, it's fast, it has voice chat, it is pick up and play, it is perfect for 8 to 23 year olds still in school.
Unlike more robust FPS games which require hours of practice from a nerd in front of a PC.
And the most important part, it has 4 player on screen gameplay so you and your jock friends can have fun together instead of having to "network" your PCs together which most idiots from 8 to 23 can't do.
Oh and yes, we know, other games did this before... but Microsoft and Bungee perfectly timed this release on a platform geared directly for this same crowd (as opposed to the child friendly N64 with Goldeneye and the sort).

I really think that quote about "I could have made Halo" has been taken out of context. I believe that statement was part of an answer to a question about the very different direction Nintendo has taken lately. He was trying to say that he/they could have made another FPS and gone the way everyone else is going, but they are trying to do something different. So it was "we could have done what's popular" not "we could have out-Haloed Halo."
Some of these guys are annoying, true. But I really like the way things have gone the last few years where fans are getting to know the people making the games. With good games, it helps you identify with them. Like how you look for a new album buy a great band. You can be a fan of a music label, but really, you like the bands, not the label. I've enjoyed hearing from Ken Levine about Bioshock and lately I've been listening to the podcast from the Burnout team and enjoying that.
Gaming needs more "stars" IMO. It's just that more of the stars need to be less dickish.

If thats the reason, then I´m gonna be an ass now and say, everyone could have made Halo...-.-
And as for Developers:
I think of it as fun or as valueable information.
If theres some idiot talking crap just laugh about it and go on.
If some guy talks about his and others games its actually interesting, I will remember it.
I´m such an idiot, that just collects every interesting thing(no matter how unimportant it might be xD).

Halo is an amazing console FPS and its multiplayer mode is fantastic, probably one of the deepest FPS experiences online. Before playing Halo I was into the PC FPS scene and played my fair share of quakeworld, quake 3, UT and Team Fortress, the quality of the online experience Halo gives easily stands up with the greats. The original Halo was the best FPS to come along on the console since Goldeneye and Perfect Dark and it took the quality of that console FPS experience to a level which I believe is just as good as anything on PC. It also was the game to revive Co-op which I am sure many of us are grateful for.
It also cant be underestimated the huge impact it has had on the gaming industry, it was the first fps to get the control scheme for a FPS just right and now every console FPS follows its basic control scheme. Considering how big the FPS genre has become on consoles, the gaming industry would look a lot different today if it wasnt for halo
Halo is 'special' as a console FPS, but I do not think that the way the game plays or how it is balanced translates that well to a PC. If you have a Xbox 360 and Xbox Live, you will find the most feature complete and deepest online FPS ever made

Well that's the thing, Halo is a very shallow game. Multiplayer works because the players get creative with their limited options. The guys at Bungie put only a little effort into the game, putting emphasis on graphics and story. The players have to make the difference.
The guy who makes me the most angry is Yuji Naka. The guy was constantly threatening to quit if Sega didn't do what he wanted, such as pay him more. Sonic 2 was developed in the USA because he felt Sega never paid him enough for the first game. He quit, and was looking for a job when the American branch offered him more pay and a Ferrari. He also threatened to leave if STI got a hold of his Nights engine to use on Sonic Xtreme without paying him.

Bungie must be the some of the laziest\worse developers out there. They have all the money in the world, all the 1st party tech support in the world, all the resources one of the world's largest software companies can throw at them, and almost any talent they can get their hands on, and they still take 4 years to make a shallow, unoriginal game that adds next to nothing to the genre that hasn't been done before. Single player, which is lauded for its 'original and deep' cliched storyline only lasts for as many hours as I can count on one hand and for those of us who don't like online games, or can't play them for whatever reason (wireless networking issues, etc), you're boned.
During these 4 years where Bungie were likely bathing in swimming pools of their own cash and drinking champagne instead of making a good game, Irrational created Bioshock in less time, Epic made Gears of War and UT3 and BioWare made Mass Effect.
You know what the worst part of it is? Halo 3 is going to be on so many Game of the Year lists, and be praised for its originality and sell so many more copies than all of the above. IGN already named it most original game of the year (WTF?!?!).
End Rant.
