Apparently these things are now commercially available. Slashdot is covering it too.

i was interested in building my own SD Adapter but when i saw 2 Videos on Youtube i have ditched the project. I am waiting for something else to be released , ie something with faster data reading so no in game slowdowns occur.

Checkout the 2 Videos its rather disappointing .............the slowdown occurs in game , i dont mind slower loading times but in game is just not on imo.

Considering it still has to boot from a CD, that's the only possible advantage I can think of.

Not really, it doesn't have to keep reading the disc, should make laser last longer.

Perhaps, but it seems like keeping around a spare Dreamcast is already pretty cost effective, and a lot less effort. Add to that the slowdowns that seem to occur on a lot of games, and I'm not convinced this is worth it, as much as I want it to be. Dragging out the life of the hardware without being able to enjoy it properly defeats the purpose, and doesn't seem like much of an advantage at all.

Wow, this is pretty cool! Do we have any Chinese-speakers here on RB? I checked the website that has it for sale, and if I'm looking at it right I believe it says it's 35 Yuan. However that translates to about 5 dollars, which either means that I fail with understanding Chinese currency, or this is incredibly cheap! Either way, someone needs to buy this and do a proper review, this looks like it'd fit into my collection nicely.

Also a side note: it looks like this is made by some dude who goes by the name XCKDIY. A quick googling brought me to his website. He is one hell of a modder! He has some of the coolest and most creative console mods I've seen in a while, the Game Gear style OG Gameboy has to be the single greatest thing ever made.
My Want List!

Anyone try to build this yet?

Can anyone recommend a spring-loaded SD card reader to cannibalize?
Good day!
I have a EURO PAL Dreamcast with a non operational GD-ROM drive, which I don't want to replace. Is it possible to perform this mod:

And run the appropriate software Dreamshell / BootDreams directly from the SD Card and run commercial games as ISO / CDI images from the SD card, or is the GD-ROM needed?!

I also saw this tutorial, but it is not made clear if it is possible to run DreamShell & BootDreams directly from the SD Card without the need of an operational GD-ROM.

http://www.dallaslive.de/vdr/projects/r ... dex-en.php

Any info, guides or links to clarify this and to successfully complete this mod will be highly aappreciated.

Thanks in advance.
