On another note, has anyone tried this service before - http://store.wiredextreme.com/PS3-Board ... _p_12.html

Seems to be the cheapest at $80 with shipping included both ways.
Definitely cheaper, but only if you can trust them.

Sony Repair Center - $162.00 for a non broken seal even exchange.
To Factory exchange upgrade to Slim it would be 142 bucks.

Did you get a chance to read my YLOD link?

Yeah I read the YLOD link. I think it would probably make most sense to just swap it out for a slim, but I don't even want to deal with it. I would want to keep the launch model for all its cool extras - but don't want to risk the chance that it breaks again. I think I might just send it to those guys at wiredextreme and sell it.. :/

YLOD & red rings of death - why the fuck cant they figure out how to build this shit right the first time around?

I'm not 100% sure at all, but isn't that something like the PS3 Yellow Light Of Death? :/ Try looking up info on that, the yellow light and two red flashes. Probably is a error code to tell you how to fix it. Or atleast sony before they send you a new one after sending it in.

it needs reflowed.

I done another one last night.

fat 80 gig machine, stripped it down, mobo in the oven for 7 minutes at gas mark 2 and its working fine again.

Symptoms are green light, yellow comes on for a millisecond then flashing red.

messing with hdd's or power supplies will not fix it.
