Why?

Post by pjvdg »

Got back from a garage sale last Sunday, bought two NES games and noticed that the top and bottom of the cases was cut out:

Why would anybody do this?

My theory is that the box top and bottom flaps got really worn out or torn up from over use and the original owner just snipped them off. Who knows. These games were originally intended for kids. You're lucky to even have the original boxes. Most threw them away.

My guess is that they cut off the top and bottom so that the boxes would fold flat and not take up much space.

Of course, you can get the boxes to fold flat without cutting them, but they might not have realized that.

maybe they were rental copies. I remember stores would slide covers over pieces of Styrofoam for display purposes sometimes.

Wow, that brings back some memories. Growing up I never had an NES but would always love going to the local movie rental place just go rifle through the boxes and dream...

True, I remember doing that myself as a kid :(
As a kid I only cared for the game itself, but now there's allot more to it!

That's a good theory, one of them had the original price and tag from a local shop on them so they probably did it for another reason in this case.

Why ask why? (Budwieser?)
 (FC, AVFC, NES, SFC x2, SNES, N64, GC x2, Wii x2)*(G&W x7, GB, GBpocket, GBASP, DS-L x2)
(GEN, SS x3, DC x3)*(PCE-Duo)*(Xbox:500GB)*(NGCDZ, NGPC)*(PS1, PStwo, PS3:160GB, PSP.3K)

I know! I think back to being a kid... why did I throw away all those GB boxes?? I mean, why wouldn't you want a nice box to keep your game in? Instead, I'd throw the box out, the manual would get lost and I'd just have a drawer full of loose carts. Pfft.
