New innovations?! --- To me the 3DS is what the Virtual Boy should have been in the first place. But I get what you're saying.
Lol touché. Although, I'm still going to call it somewhat of an innovation
Edit: Besides, Nintendo aren't always about innovations. What innovations did the Super Nintendo, Gameboy Color, Gameboy Advance, and Gamecube really bring?
... Awaits to be owned
Edit again: Ooo thought of one for the SNES. Shoulder buttons.

Alright here's everything I think their next home console might have.
1. 3D with out glasses or a 3D TV 2. HD output, maybe even wireless HD output who knows whats possible 5 years from now. 3. Expanded VC with Gamecube, Saturn and Dreamcast added among others 4. New form of media storage or new take on an old form; card or some sort of mini blue ray 5. 300+ GB hard drive 6. wireless nunchuk and other controllers. 7. Motion tracking camera mixed with gyros and sensor bar 8. Voice control features and eye tracking 9. Touch pad interface, detaches so you can play VC games on the go. 10. Backward compatiblity with Wii games. 11. 3DS connectivity 12. transfers DSi ware and VC to and from

Haha yeah, but that was kind of pointless. Still, the Gamecube controller is possibly one of, if not, my favourite controller ever. Only the D-pad lets it down.
I agree with a lot of your list btw pepharytheworm.

Finally cut to the chase and build a money printing press rather than masquerading as a game company. Or Wii hd.
Actually, I'd like to think they'd be a little less predictable with their naming of a new console. I mean I know they just keep updating the name of the ds and that's what they did with the GB. But apart from the nes/snes they have never really kept a name going for more than that consoles generation.
So perhaps a new shiny HD motion controlled console(or perhaps some other innovation) but with a new name.

The only way to deactivate the ray beam and fight back the vampire alien threat is with a complicated series of foot patterns on the device's control board that looks remarkably like a DDR pad. We will all praise this man for saving our lives and buy him a mountain of stuffed animals.
The successor to the Wii will be 2-3times as powerful as the PS3, if not upwards to 4-5times!
If they decide to go through with it, it'll feature holographic media storage. If not, it'll be entirely digital distribution.
It'll be backwards compatible with the GameCube and Wii, and will also be able to upconvert them to whatever TV standard they use in the future.
It'll be 3D, and aside from that making the next Metroid Prime really fuckin AWESOME, we'll also FINALLY see a Super Mario FPS.
We'll be able to download games from the same systems as the Wii, along with the GameCube, Sega CD, Sega Saturn, Sega Dreamcast, and a few others.
Controls will be motion-based, but with a twist. For one, it'd revolve around glove-based controls. Basically, it'd react to your hand movements and poses. So, make like you're holding a shotgun. Now, you'll have to mime cocking it to cock the shottie in the game, and hold your right like you're holding it and pull your trigger finger like you're pulling the trigger. Also, foot-based for movement. Also, do the same with "cockpit controls" to control a tank. Basically, move your hands like you're using the actual controller or doing the actual action. So... playing Super Mario can either be with actual running and jumping OR using a virtual controller.
