I hope its a good game. I really do.

Same - and thankfully the initial opinions seem to be good enough to warrant me purchasing the game when it comes out where I live on Friday.
The same goes for Sonic Colours - it actually seems to be shaping up nicely and if reviews are good I'll definitely give it a chance.

Did anyone buy Sonic 4 on Wii or other home console yet? The $15 USD price for a download game seems high, considering what you can buy on other services like Steam for the same amount.
Thanks everyone...

It does seem slightly high. 1500 Wii Points is roughly equivalent to £10, but it'll only be the third Wii Ware game that I've ever downloaded, and I want to support Sonic 4 in order to encourage Sega to actually make good games again.

Maybe. On the other hand, it's only $5 (USD) more than Mega Man 9 or 10 cost without the DLC, and it's not stuck on fake 8-bit NES graphics and sound, either. A game of the same quality as this seems to be (I haven't played it yet) could sell on the DS for $20 to $30 USD. It might not be such a bad deal, depending on how you want to look at it.

I think what throws me off is that they added "Episode 1" to the title, which makes me think it's missing something.

Yeah, that's my only real misgiving. I'm curious to find out the scale of this first "episode". If it's just a couple of Zones, then the price seems a little high. If it's an "episode" the way Sonic & Knuckles and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 were basically two episodes of one gigantic game... Yeah, that would be awesome.

No, he wasn't. The gameplay was fine, but Shadow sucks.

How the hell can graphics or sound be "fake"?

the fact that Sega needs to be "encouraged" to make good games is pretty sad, really.

I don't know whether you're serious, or you're just playing with semantics, but I'm game.

As graphics and sound, generally, they exist as such and couldn't be qualified as "fake" in that sense, which I am assuming is what you mean. That's an absurd assertion to make though, since we could just as easily go the opposite route and assert that as long as they are not the things they represent, all graphics are fake. "Ceci n'est pas une pipe." Saying that all graphics are real, or that no graphics are real would be a statement that renders itself meaningless outside of pseudo-intellectual navel gazing.

As NES/Famicom graphics and sound, they are not the genuine article. The graphics are clearly designed to suggest that the program is limited to the NES/Famicom hardware's palette and resolution, but that's not actually the case. The music and effects are designed to sound like they are created by an NES/Famicom sound chip, but they aren't. The game even has an option to fake the imaginary hardware's sprites-per-line limitation, but that hardware limitation isn't really there as such. It is a real game with real graphics and sound (such as they are), but it is a fake NES game with fake NES graphics and sound. Ergo the graphics and sound are "fake" in the intended sense, but not necessarily in some other sense that you might try to arbitrarily substitute.

TLDR version: it is the suggested nature of the graphics and sound that is fake, rather than the general idea that they exist.
