GBA advice
Re: GBA advice
If you wanna go all cheapskate, a GB Micro w/ Flachcart. It would also be a lot more spacious.
You can emulate GB and GBC games on a GBA flash cart. So you'd basically have everything you'd need in one tiny handheld. And of course, all the wonderful homebrew games that would be otherwise unavailable.
Here's one of those emulators that stuck out the most.

Re: GBA advice
I'd go with an SP, just make sure you get on of the models with the brighter screen. The "brighter screen" is indicated on the box. Also, from what I've read, they were only released in Graphite, Perl Blue, Pearl Pink and (I think) SpongeBob SquarePants editions. My overall recommendation echoes 'Dux's, just make sure you get one of the "BRIGHTER SCREEN" SPs.

Re: GBA advice
maybe your eyes are better than mine, but I can't imagine playing something with tiny bullets on that tiny Micro screen!!Frizz.Meister wrote:Thanks for the good responses, it seems i will definatly be going down this route. Also your blog Noise is amazing i never knew the GBA had games such as invader and Iridion 2.
I'm leaning a little mroe towards the micro at the moment as although the SP has the backwards compatibility i think ill stick to GBA or else ill keep expanding all the way back to the original gameboy. Not that it didnt have great games, but that i am considering this as a method of condensing my collection, not simply altering it.

I want one. I'd rather have that gold Triforce one though.noiseredux wrote:I have the NES GBA SP. I love the hell out of that thing.
Though my dark blue SP does just well for itself.

Surprised Noise didn't mention this yet.Frizz.Meister wrote:So, Which version do you reccomend (Micro, SP, Standard)? Any verticle shmups(favourite genre)? Is it even worth buying? ie will the console break quickly/bad battery/bad graphics ect.
The newer GBA SP model AGS-101 has a bright backlit screen.

Built in strong rechargeable batteries. Both my black GBA SP backlits still play great!
Also the GBA SP is a nice add on to Gamecube Pacman VS.

EDIT
Oops, didn't see that BEERS AND VIDEOS brought this point up first.

Re: GBA advice
honestly, I've never felt that the frontlit version was an issue. I think the frontlit versions are great. Sure the backlit may improve, but really there's no problem with any SP.CRTGAMER wrote: Surprised Noise didn't mention this yet.

Re: GBA advice
Agree all the SPs have good screens. Might as well get the brightest one though, both at the same price at Gamestop.
Especially when playing in the bright Sun, irony is laying on your back to get the Sensor to recharge faster in Boktai.
