GBA advice
I need some money pretty fast so im selling my entire SNES collection along with all my sealed games(they've sat on the shelf too long anyway). However so i dont feel completly down i was thinking about maybe spending some of the moeny i make on getting a GBA and some games for it.
However I need some advice on GBA consoles and games. At school i missed out on the whole GBA craze as i was too busy playing football so i know near to nothing about the console or its games. But i do know that most of my SNES collection is remade/ported on the GBA and the games seem dirt cheap at my local store.
So, Which version do you reccomend (Micro, SP, Standard)? Any verticle shmups(favourite genre)? Is it even worth buying? ie will the console break quickly/bad battery/bad graphics ect.

Re: GBA advice
An SP is the way to go. It has a much brighter screen than the original, it has a rechargeable battery, and it plays original GB and GBC games (which the Micro does not).

Is it worth buying? Absolutely.
Will it break easy? No.

Re: GBA advice
noiseredux has some great posts on GBA shmupson his blog. I'll grab the link in a sec.
As for the model, I'd go for the SP. The original uses AA batteries and has no screen lighting, and its pretty infamously hard to see. The Micro has the nicest screen, but no compatability with GBC and original GB games. The SP is the best of both, with backwards compatability, a lighted screen and a rechargable battery.
The battery life is about 14 hours charged i'd say, the graphics are nice, the console is reliable, and it's well worth getting.
Edit: Haha, completely beaten to the post by noise himself.

If you're on a budget, but still want to experience a lot of GBA games, get a flashcart. They're dirt cheap [I got mine for around $25], and you can carry an entire collection with you wherever you go!

sorry dude. I see "gba" in the title, and I jump into action. It's like seeing a bat-symbol in the night skyalienjesus wrote:

Re: GBA advice
Good suggest, but it's worth pointing out that no GBA flash cart does SDHC, so you max out at 2GB. That's a lot of games but not near a full set. Here's a couple good doujin shmups you can try on a flash cart.lisalover1 wrote:If you're on a budget, but still want to experience a lot of GBA games, get a flashcart. I just want to say that BulletGBA kicks ass; it is the best GBA homebrew game I have had the pleasure to play.Hatta wrote:Good suggest, but it's worth pointing out that no GBA flash cart does SDHC, so you max out at 2GB. Re: GBA advice
Thanks for the good responses, it seems i will definatly be going down this route. Also your blog Noise is amazing i never knew the GBA had games such as invader and Iridion 2.
I'm leaning a little mroe towards the micro at the moment as although the SP has the backwards compatibility i think ill stick to GBA or else ill keep expanding all the way back to the original gameboy. Not that it didnt have great games, but that i am considering this as a method of condensing my collection, not simply altering it.
EDIT: As for the flash cart i would much rather stay away as i got in trouble with the police over supposed piracy of Dreamcast games back in 08 and well...Once bitten twice shy.

That sounds like an interesting story. How do the police get involved in a civil matter?Frizz.Meister wrote: EDIT: As for the flash cart i would much rather stay away as i got in trouble with the police over supposed piracy of Dreamcast games back in 08 and well...Once bitten twice shy.

Re: GBA advice
Unfortunatly its not too interesting. I was in my last year of boarding school and due to some rumor about someone in my 'house' having drugs all the rooms got searched when we were at lessons. When we came back i was discplined and the house master called the police on me who gave me a very long and boring lecture. Before giving me a official warning.Hatta wrote: That sounds like an interesting story. How do the police get involved in a civil matter?
