I actually do that a couple times a year. I'll box up my current systems and then break out my NES. I then spend about a week or two going through my entire NES library. Then I'll box up and bring out my Genesis and spend a couple weeks on that (at least 2 weeks with my nice collection). Then put that one away and hook up my SNES. Then eventually... my Saturn, my N64, my PS2, Xbox, Gamecube, and finally my 360.

I like to rotate them at least a couple times a year because it...
a. brings back memories
b. makes me realize how far technology has come and appreciate current gen. more
c. allows me to play the games that I've picked up since I last had it hooked up
d. keeps all my old systems and games from sitting too long and collecting dust

Wat. There are many reasons why this statement makes no sense, but I'll go ahead and put it in some concrete terms. System requirements state that Fallout 3's minimum processor speed must be DOUBLE that of WoW's. Honestly, I shouldn't even have to explain this.
point taken... I got lost in a ramble/rant... and I love to hate all three of those games
thekorean12 wrote: I understand what you're getting at with Minecraft as it's a very well put together game. However, are the point of graphics not to best convey whatever setting they are designed to do? Shouldn't graphics be based off of how well they use current technology to bring forth whatever setting they are trying to create?
not sure how to answer that
I can read what you you are saying, but in my mind this doesn't fall in place, so to speak (mind you I am not English speaking)

I think I can see what you're getting at, but not 100% sure

wow.
just wow.

I keep getting amazed by the things that can be done within this engine

Yeah, I worded that a little weird. I'm just saying that I think that graphics should try to be as realistic as possible, if the designer is going for realism. Or if the designer is going for perfect cartoon characters, it should be a close to perfect as possible. The closer it is, the better the graphics. All while using the latest technology. Sorry if that's not any clearer, I'm trying, I swear.

Wind Waker in 480p is something to behold. If you can get a hold of a GC or Wii component cable, you're really in for a treat.

J T wrote:I often try to pretend that every game intended for the graphics it has, even though I know that the graphics of older games were largely decided on by the limitations of the technology at the time. I like to think "what if it was an artistic choice to use big blocky pixels instead of a requirement?" Thinking this way helps me see which games were truly comfortable in their medium because they made smart choices with what they had. The older games that pushed for more realism aged quickly and were soon outdated by games on higher technology with more realism.
I completely agree. Going back to Sonic 2 via Wii homebrew, I'm always blown away by the vibrant colors of the first zone (as well as the catchy music). Man, Treasure needs to put out a new 2D game on the PS3/360.

Yep. All Gamecube games that support 480p will work in 480p with a Wii component cable.

Well, SF2 was all animated. So obviously it was a lot easier to do.

..and remember the first Mortal Kombat was mostly a product of only 4 guys: 1 programmer, 2 art directors, and one sound guy.

It was one hell of an achievement if you ask me.

 Woah... I did not know that.

I guess I just didn't like it's style of fighting, but still, 4 guys!?! Thats pretty amazing.

I dunno, I never really got into the Mortal Kombat series, mainly because I just wasn't too fond of the gameplay.
