Re: Keeping games you don't like to have a better collection?
This is most definitely an issue with me as well- mostly for PS1- because there are so many games that hold a high value- I try to seek them all out, but to be honest- I do not like many of them (Digimon Games)- I have this problem with Ico as well, I dislike the game, but I can't let go of it, partially because of its value, but I also might want to give it a second try down the road- This is true of most things people collect though, I own some records that aren't the best, but because of their rarity I picked them up- same goes for movies (looking at you Anchor Bay!)
Re: Keeping games you don't like to have a better collection?
As a guy who partially rates my collection based on the number of titles, I've brought in my fair share of crap. But at the same time, I've realized that this collection isn't just for me. I'm not big on lending out my games anymore, but if a friend is willing to come over to play, I will be more than happy to let them try out whatever they like, because part of the magic of the whole thing is to let friends and family find new gems they didn't know about.
Yeah, I know, there's still some garbage in there that nobody loves. But at the same time, I like to play those games just to see what that title did wrong, and perhaps even harder, see what it got right. I think of video games as offering up new experiences, and I find it fun to examine that experience and see how a genre has developed or shaped itself, while also trying to understand what I like or dislike about a particular title. The more I play, the more I can feel my perceptions of games evolving over time. I've also found it makes me more forgiving with titles, so I get some enjoyment out of titles most folks would consider crap, though there are some I just plain don't like.
Like Ultraman on the SNES. There's very little that it got right.

For me any game I don't even remotely like does not even deserve a place on my shelve. I am more a quality over quantity person. Below is pictured of games I just put in a rubbermaid container(around 70). Some games are extras, found, don't like the condition, and some are just ones I want CIB (like dragon warrior)

I should sell these but really don't even know if people would want them.

Well, why not? Some of us are collectors.ChuChu Flamingo wrote:For me any game I don't even remotely like does not even deserve a place on my shelve. I am more a quality over quantity person. Also, looking at some of those games, I'd be pretty interested. If you took a check, that is.

I think there's definetely some things there that people would be interested in. The games I sold were much worse and although they didn't make a whole lot of money, they still sold.
I sold Robocop, Wrath of the black manta and mission impossible for NES, populous, mortal kombat, rise of the robots and Pit Fighter for SNES and a football game for NGPC.
The 4 or so good but cheap games I can get with the profits I made more than make up for 8 crappy games I never played that I got rid of.
EDIT: Wait, Pokemon Snap, Ikari Warriors, Dragon Warrior and Streets of rage 2 are in there and you think nobody would want them?!

Re: Keeping games you don't like to have a better collection?
I know this is a bit outside of what the topic is meant to be about, but I plan on getting every RPG and horror-themed game made for a console. So of course I have and will have even more crap when I'm done, and I'm fine with that. Part of it is that I'll likely have a small amount of joy playing some games that I normally wouldn't just to see what they're like and either enjoy them or laugh at how inept they are. Plus, since I collect boxed games now, it's going to be cool just to have games like Friday the 13th or Beetlejuice in box sitting on the shelf. I doubt I'll ever play them for longer than I have already, but it'll just be cool regardless.
However, as for selling games, I have no problem parting w/ my collection if it's for a good cause (ie need money for my family). I've sold off my games before, back before I knew what a "collection" was, and I wouldn't hesitate to do it again. I'd probably keep most of the crap tho, since it wouldn't get much money anyway.

I have a ton of games listed at my store's site: Super Smash Video Games

I wish. Almost everythng you see here is leftovers from older brothers games, thrift stores, and the like.
