I have to admit even though ZM may have been more fun, I felt more pride/accomplished after beating Super Metroid.
Really? Does it get harder? I just acquired the Power Bomb, and I've only defeated like three bosses at this point. I'm enjoying it, don't get me wrong, I'm just wondering if I'm almost done with it already. I'm like almost two hours right now.

If you just got the power bombs then up next is the grapple beam then the crashed ship for the gravity suit then meridia for the space jump then down to fight ridley before the final area. I'd say you're a bit more than half way done.

You've done all of Brinstair, and a third of Norfair. You still have the rest of Norfair, all of Wrecked ship (which is small), all of Maridia, and all of Tourian.

Metroid is a series that has been treated reasonably well so be very glad you discovered it.

I don't think it gets much harder until Mother Brain. I just thought the jumping in Super Metroid was different (floaty) and it took a while to get used too after playing Zero Mission.

I'm in Ridley's Lair right now, and the game has become a bit more challenging. I'm having a lot of fun with it, and its definitely longer than I thought it would be. If I put in the effort tomorrow, I should be able to have it beat so I can start on Other M by tomorrow night.

Haha .. it's funny that people call the jumping in Super Metroid 'floaty' after playing Zero Mission. When I played Zero Mission, I was all 'What the shit is this with the jumping?"

just finished zero mission... in the middle pf a replay now, well... i replayed almost half and then started another game to try and beat my time. should i feel bad using guides for all the tanks? and should i feel bad asking advice on how to fully use shinesparking? (there's some blocks i have to crash through for a tank of sorts, i'm guessing, at the bottom of one of the brinstar shafts, they're only knee high)

I don't think its wrong to use a guide if you have already beat the game and are going for 100%, or if you are hopelessly stuck. I personally play these kinds of games without guides, and just try to get as much as I can without them the first time, then on a second playthrough I'll do what you are doing.
