Yeah, I forgot about Iglesias. He's hilarious.

Also, Greg Proops (Whose Line is it Anyway, Futurama, MadWorld) is pretty good too. I don't know how those guys on WLiiA did it; I rarely come up with comedy on the spot like that.

Has anyone besides me here actually done stand up?
It's a fantasy of mine, just go up there and rant about stupid bullshit with people laughing. Even if there was an open mic, I don't think I have the stones to go up there.

Rodney Dangerfield
Jon Dore
Stewart Francis
Ron White
Lewis Black

Last year I saw Lewis Black and Bill Cosby preform stand up comedy. Both shows were so funny but a lot of Bill Cosby's humor is directed to parents and people with a lot more worldly experience than me so I can't truly appreciate his comedy as much as someone like my parents would/do. Lewis Black is always fucking hilarious though. 8)

Well, you hope people will laugh. Sometimes a joke will kill with one crowd, bomb on another.

Did any of you guys knock on someones door then run away as a kid? I was toying with the idea of doing an Andy Kaufman-esque joke where I do the same with the crowd. Get up to the mic, say "Knock knock", then quickly run back stage. But, I think it would be lst on most crowds.

You should go on stage in your underwear and say you were nervous and you heard that having the audience picture you in your underwear relieves anxiety.

Er, no.

The best way to get a crowd on your side is to be yourself, it even works for people who are assholes. That's why I've never done the knock knock joke. Just ain't my style.

I'm actually trying to fine tune up a joke about retro games. I have a two or three minute rant about how my wife thinks I'd choose games over her, and I was thinking of adding something close to:

"Maybe my wife is right. Last night one thing led to another and I realized I was humping her in the up up down down left right left right pattern".

Then I need to think of a decent tag, something like:

"Now she thinks I cheat".

That's what is awesome about comedy, you constantly re-write jokes and find ways to add tags and how to tie your opener to your jokes. That, and comedians are some of the nicest people you'll meet.

my good friend, Josh Gondelman, is doing quite well for himself. he was awarded first prize at the 2010 Laughing Skull Comedy Festival in Atlanta, GA

he's got a great bit about that Biggie Smalls line that goes "Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis. When I was young I could never picture this." I'll just butcher it if I try, so I won't.. but he tours all across the country so you should see him if you get the chance!

Also, I didn't see a comedian mentioned in this thread that I don't enjoy. And as much as I love Bill Cosby, he owes me 50 bucks. Sweatpants and matching Sweatshirt and he only did one bit at the end, the dentist, the rest of the time he talked about NOTHING. seriously, I can't remember a single thing he said at that show. It was pretty disappointing, but I guess at least I can say I saw the Cos.

I won't say this often, but I'm funnier than that comedian.

I certainly hope so. That guy was fucking awful. Does he know anything about what he's making jokes about?
