Love it or leave it people....isn't that how the saying goes?
I think that the majority of people believe that they have a legal right to build it there, but would rather that they build it somewhere else.

On a semi-related note. I was listening to the radio the other day and someone was commenting on the fact that at at least 2 locations in NYC, they close down some streets on Friday afternoon so that Muslims can lay out their prayer rugs and pray toward Mecca. There is apparently not enough room for all of them inside the mosques so they have to move outside.

Somehow this is okay, but if someone wants to put up a manger scene around Christmas or display the 10 commandments there is a major hissy fit thrown.

Equal treatment?

Funny considering I see 10 commandments and manger scenes displayed around all over the place and nobody complains at all.
I don't want that stuff in front of my courthouse or police barracks though. Separation of church and state includes shit like this.

We can take God off the money and out of the pledge too, as far as I am concerned.

I imagine if it was say, hindu related items or scenes in front of courthouses or police stations people would probably find it "inappropriate".

Truly, the greatest way for the church to reflect the love of Jesus Christ upon the world is to complain loudly about how we're being "persecuted" or "treated unjustly" by the United States government and those outside of the church.

There's a difference between the government making practical efforts to allow muslims a place to practice their beliefs, and the government itself supporting a religion by creating a display of the 10 commandments or putting up a manger scene.

Has anyone noticed how this argument against the mosque has now turned into random islam bashing? I think that shows how the people against it aren't boycotting it because it's "disrespectful", they're boycotting it because they're racist bigots, plain and simple.

Where is there Christian bashing going on? Categorizing all Christians as bigoted is just as wrong as categorizing all Muslims as terrorists - it would be quite hypocritical. I certainly see the latter argument playing out on the streets of NY and across America, but not the former. Where is this Christian persecution you claim is taking place?

I think maybe he thought I meant "this argument" as in "the argument in this thread".

I was referring to the media and general population who is against the mosque and their argument.

I do think that the reasoning against the mosque was at one point in question. I think there was a pro mosque group, anti-mosque group, and a middleground. But what I've seen is that the anti-mosque has gone from their "respect for people who lost someone in 9/11" angle, to a completely "get islam out of america" angle. The issue has risen from just being about a mosque near ground zero, to being about mosques and muslims all across the country.

Anyone want to throw in a bet on whether the mosque will end up being built at that location or not?

If it does end up getting built, I would imagine the issue completely disappearing within a year of it opening. Actually I would bet that 95% of the picketing and media coverage will vanish by January.
