yeah I thought that was hard as well. Until I found out I can kill the hunters in 1 shot if I run them over with the car. After that it was easy street.

Seriously!? I didn't know that. I would snipe them from afar with the crossbow or use a rocket launcher if I had one, then once I'd weakened them with a shot from one of those, to conserve ammo I'd finish them off by rolling in with my machine gun and doing a bit of stick and move to avoid their fire and charges. I managed to beat them this way, but not without a lot of cursing.

Lost Coast is just a few short battles to show off the engine improvements they added in EP1. It is pretty short so don't plan on it filling an evening. :)

Just to clarify the hunters are the small ones not the huge ass ones. You know that right? Cause all you did seams a bit much to take down one of the small guys.

Anyway the hunters were the ones being a pain in the ass. The big ones could be killed with rocket launcher, or gravity gun + explosive barrel, and without the hunters they didn't have a lot of defense left.

The hunters are the small guys, but they took 2 rocket launcher hits to go down, or 3 crossbow shots. In the final wave, you have to fight off about 8 of them and this is after most of your outpost points where you would normally stock up on supplies have been destroyed, so there are few options for increasing ammo. The striders are big guys, but you can take them down easy by launching a magnuson device bomb on their head with your gravity gun, then quickly switching to handgun to shoot it for detonation.

The hardest segment of the game I had played before that was also with hunters, when you and Alyx are holding down a city that has been walled off and waves of hunters are coming after you there as well. They fire off shots at you and charge at you. They are fast and do lots of damage.

oh ok. I did not remember that they were that hard to take out. Anyway on normal difficulty I just run them over and job done.

I'm already over HL2, but if Ep3 decided to show up I'd play it anyway.

As for mods, I only played MINERVA. It seems there aren't many decent single-player mods based on the Source engine.

So should I hold off on playing Ep. 1 and 2 until we hear that 3 is coming?
