WTF???

DO get a Hori. I have had nothing but great experiences with Hori sticks. I suspect this guy doesn't know what he's talking about... Do you have some actual reason for advising against Hori, Krooner?
I've used Hori sticks on SS and PSX and will whole heartedly say they were great sticks, but since the Fighting Stick 2 (which they stupidly added rumble on, they placed it on the bottom of the stick shaft!) there's been a massive drop in quality. My main issue is the buttons, they sit on rubber pads which in turn sit on the PCB, in the same way a control pads buttons do. Leading to a squashy, mushy feeling when playing. Admittedly this is something alot of gamers don't notice, but as someone who plays alot of fighters and shooters it's something I pick up on immediately. It would be so bad if the sticks were moddable in anyway but the casings aren't deep enough for anything other than Hori stock parts.

P.S. I'm wholly referring to the 'Fighting Stick' line of Hori controllers the Hori 'Real Arcade Pro' line is excellent for the most part and due to it using The same kind of parts as a TE or at least allowing you the choice to drop them in it's an individual preference between the two. I find I don't get enough wrist support on a HRAP

We all know Mad Catz' record, but they've admitted their mistakes and have said they're trying to make a new name for themselves. That in of itself means nothing, but I think the TE stick speaks volumes to their promise. Even though the FightPad wasn't as high quality as it should have been (though still an improvement upon the standard 360 d-pad), the TE stick is one of the best sticks ever released. It's got a big foot print, unnecessary buttons can be locked and the start and back buttons are placed on the back, the main buttons are placed in such a way to cater to fans of different layouts, the buttons and sticks are full Sanwa, and for the most part, it's very easy to take apart and mod. The cord storage is a nice bonus as well. It's just a great stick.

The HRAP EX stick is very high quality as well, and is really the only other stick to consider for the arcade purists or competitive perfectionists. It's generally a more solidly built controller than the TE, but the Hori buttons aren't great and would need to be swapped with Sanwa or Seimitsu. It also doesn't have the guide lockout, though most players aren't likely to hit that area of the controller accidentally in the first place. The EX-SE is actually fully Seimitsu, including the buttons, so that's an out-of-the-box option, unless you prefer Sanwa. (I personally like Sanwa sticks for fighters and Seimitsu sticks for shooters - which means I pretty much always use a Seimitsu. :) I go back and forth on the buttons - they're both great.)

Get the fat version of the TE stick not TE S! Your paying for the same thing only slimmer and there not much slimmer also there not as good. There's a lot more modding you can do with the fatty and there cheaper. EB games and Gamestop sell them for $120 in canada so probably less in the states.

Plus you can get a sexy Marvel VS Capcom one!

I have the Street Fighter TE stick and it is awesome. I also have the Street Fighter CE stick but it is not as good but it is easy to put better components into it.

I have not heard of slim versions of the TE. I have the Round 2 version which I hear is even better than the original TE.

That makes more sense, but I still don't understand why you'd advice against Hori just based on one line of their controllers when you admit the Pro series is excellent.

I told him not to get a Hori in this instance, if he was spending HRAP money He's still better off with the TE as it ships with all Sanwa parts the HRAP still has Hori stock buttons (albeit wired properly) It'll cost extra cash just to level the playing field.

I dont say much on here anymore but I had to chime in on this one. I play only 3 games hardcore, 2 out of those 3...fighters and shmups. I have used sticks that normally run DOUBLE the TE sticks. Now after stating that...the TE stick is insane for the price. The weight of the buttons dont feel like trash thanks to the nice sanwa 30mm button. The stick feels great. Every combo or eye twitching shmup action is easily hit everytime. The cheap hori sticks...are crap. They are literally plastic crap with even worse buttons. Go find a store with both sticks in stock. Pick up the 5?lb TE stick then pick up the empty, I mean...new standard hori stick...and if that isnt enough to tell you something, then I really dont know what is. The TE sticks rival the 35th aniv. sticks that are about 15 lbs in weight. Now if you want a cool looking stick that will break your pocket in shipping...its an awesome stick. Want something to blow your mind...spend about 300-350 for a completely custom setup with everything real deal arcade for 2 players and have the coolest thing ever sitting on an entire table in your living room.

Just my 2 cents.
Yep, I know im the one ya love to hate.

I appreciate all the info everyone has given me so far.
I am leaning back towards buying the Madc... Capcom one. If I just tell myself its a Capcom licensed controller I won't have to think about the other company associated with it.a

I was also looking at these before and I was wondering if anyone had any experience with X Arcade controllers.
www.xgaming.com
There are a few to choose from and they can come with different things to connect them to a couple different consoles and a computer. I originally thought of getting one of those because it works with so many things and I kind of wanted to get the 2player one so I could play with other people.

More advice required!

I know X-Arcade claims they're using "redesigned" buttons and sticks, but as I only have experience with their previous controllers, I can only say avoid. It isn't cheap in the first place, and the buttons and sticks are even worse than Hori stock. It's a very solid controller, but that doesn't justify the lack of quality in the actual parts that matter. Those that endorse it just aren't aware of how much quality buttons and sticks can effect fighters and shooters.
