You know there's like, what, five reviews for this game? Clearly there are no biases when it comes to what professional reviewers give their attention to. Guess they're waiting for the next first or third person shooter to come across their desk.
So how does this play on a regular 360 controllers? For those of us who don't yet have a joystick, is arrange mode a better choice to play it on?

The control scheme is identical on all game modes, but that having been said it controls easily and smoothly with just a regular 360 pad.

Now that you mentioned it, I went to take a look at Metacritic and saw the lowest score, given by GamesRadar. Honestly, it enraged me quite a bit:Gamerforlife wrote:You know there's like, what, five reviews for this game? Oh, yeah, because arcade games have no place at retail, they can only be downloads in this generation of 10-hour+ mediocrities.GamesRadar wrote:All this enthusiasm leads us to the sad reality of the game’s release. This would have been a glorious XBLA title at $10-$15, but Deathsmiles comes as a boxed copy and asks the uncanny price of $50. Sure, the game has replay value, but after a few playthroughs, only the ultra dedicated score chasers will have reason to keep going. Even then, it doesn’t feel like $50 worth of score chasing.
They're so retarded that they think the price of the game will drop. Sure, because a great game with lots of replayability and multiplayer value, and, to add to that, a limited run in a genre known for having crazy obsessed fans who hold on to every title they can get... well, this game can only drop in price, and quickly. We really wanted to give this game an 8, because it is really, really fun and imaginative. But the cash-burn is just too much. We’re betting the price will drop quickly, and in the mean time, it’s absolutely worth a rental.
Re: Deathsmiles coming to US thanks to Aksys
Yeah, I get sick of the whole $15 XBLA comments too. Even worse are the "you can finish this game in 20 minutes" remarks. Yeah, I guess if you consider credit feeding your way though a game to be the goal. These people do not even understand the whole entire point of the genre. Why don't they get someone who actually plays shmups to review them? Crazy idea, I know.
This is not exactly true. the 1.1 version allows you to control your option with the right thumb stick on a controller. I'd rather play using my joystick so I just do not play 1.1 though I guess I could still play it and just ignore the option control.Mod_Man_Extreme wrote:The control scheme is identical on all game modes, but that having been said it controls easily and smoothly with just a regular 360 pad.

Appears to be doing about as well as Sin and Punishment.

Edit: Make that it IS doing better than S&P. That is surprising to me.

Got my 1cc.
59,411,730 on 360 mode. Score sucks but that is ok.
Re: Deathsmiles coming to US thanks to Aksys
Damn that is impressive. I may have to see if I can even get a 1cc. I've been getting my ass kicked by a certain stage in Castle Shikigami 3 lately, so I haven't picked up any other shmups for a week or so...Octopod wrote:Got my 1cc.59,411,730 on 360 mode. Score sucks but that is ok.

Shiki 3 was a Wii release wasn't it? I'll have to pick that up sometimes but I just got that Milestone Shooting Collection. But I'll probably go back to Raiden 4 first.

I'm still on the fence about picking this one up. Is it really worth the $50?
