Finally re-bought a Gamecube

About the GB Player. My games shop actually had that in stock for £18 (works out at about US $30-35 I'd imagine). 1 - is this a good deal?

In the US, we can get a GB Player at gamestop for $10 which is about 7 GBP. Maybe it might be worthwhile for a US forum member to pick one up here and ship it to you?

There was just always something I didn't like about playing Game Boy games on the big screen... But it's probably worth buying.

Thanks for that reply. Seems you guys can get it a bit cheaper then. I've had a look on Ebay tho and I might be able to get it for better than £18 hopefully.

My main priority for the moment though is Gamecube games.

Congrats on picking up a Gamecube, my favorite console. I saw you had Timesplitters 2 as a game you'd pick up later on, but I would say get timesplitters: future perfect instead. I own both of them but Future Perfect has everything from Timesplitters 2 and more. Another game I'd recommend is 1080 avalanche a very fun snowboarding game published by Nintendo and one you should be able to get in the cheap.

Ah awesome! Thanks for the Timesplitters 3 suggestion! I used to own TS2 and loved it, but completely forgot they released a 3rd one. I never got to play it.

Thanks lisalover, I'm aware of your blog and think it's great. Your review on Tales of Symphonia I really enjoyed, so I'm definitely thinking about picking that up. Especially since I have fond memories of playing it over my friend's house years ago.

Thanks chupon, I forgot to mention Ikaruga. I most likely will buy that at some point since I love it and don't own the DC version.

I'm sorry, I don't mean that to sound in a condescending way. I'm just interested in why it's so recommended. Keep in mind here that I don't really have much interest in playing GB/GBA games anymore... But I might consider picking one up if you guys really reckon it's worth it. Also, do any of you know if it's worth getting the 'Free Loader' disc to play imports? and are there any good import games?

$30 for a GBP is not a good deal. You can find them in American Gamestop stores for around $10, last time I checked. You might want to try importing one... Although, now that you mention it, I think the GBP might be region-locked. Anyway, you should be able to find one for less than $30.

About the freeloader disc, just get an Action Replay. Most versions of the GC Action Replay have the Freeloader program included, and it will let you play homebrew, as well! It's just a much better purchase that the Freeloader disc alone.

As noiseredux said, one of the strengths of the GBP that makes it different than a standard GBA is that you can play your games on a TV, with any controller you like, and in 480p if you have component cables.

the GBP hardware is region free. You just need the startup disc to match your GCN's region.

Agree with previous comments, both GB Player and Action Replay are a must! Also in addition to other recommendations, both the Star Wars are pretty good too. Hidden Original Arcades in the discs a nice bonus.

isalover1 mention Homebrew capabilities of Action Replay. The latest action Replay doesn't allow new code entry, but has most of codes available as well as the Free Loader and an undocumented SD Media Launcher for DOL files all built in. Older Action Replay allows code entry and running of older homebrew DOL files.

noiseredux comment about additional games thru GB Player rings true. Main reason why I initially bough a Gamecube myself. Tons of GB and GBA games play. I think GBA Wario Ware Inc is better the the Gamecube version.

Congrats!

The Gamecube is probably the most durable disc based system out there. It's built like a tank, probably since it was intended to be semi-portable. I don't know anybody that has had theirs crap out on them other than needing a laser lens cleaned or adjusted.

When we got our Wii, I ended up giving mine away to my Cousin's kids since they didn't have a console along with a couple of games. I still miss that little purple box.
