So I found some old Windows 98 install discs

I was thinking, imagine how fast WIN98 would run once you get the drivers working.

Considering how windows 98 goes absolutely batshit on you if you have more than 512mb of RAM I'd say it probably would run a lot WORSE on modern pcs.

Microsoft Virtual PC comes with Vista and 7 Pro and above. However, when I had Vista Home Premium, I was able to download Virtual PC and I installed many OSes on it. If you don't have 7 Pro or above, you can try downloading it from here:

Well I have an older WINXP default ATX 1.35 gig with 752mb of ram and WIN98SE runs just fine. Of course on the current crop of WIN7 systems might be a different story, but 100% WIN98 full speed with the separate boot drive arrangement. I use this same principle for DOS 6.22 removable boot drive, no Windows chugging it down in the background.AppleQueso wrote:Considering how windows 98 goes absolutely batshit on you if you have more than 512mb of RAM I'd say it probably would run a lot WORSE on modern pcs.

752MB might be OK, but it's pushing it. I'm sure if you run 98 with 2+ gigs of RAM it'll run really bad. The OS wasn't designed to handle that much RAM. From what I've read, if you have too much RAM on 98, when the OS loads something into memory it just gets lost.
