Obviously, my keyboard does not have analog control so whenever I move my ship it skips tracks. I can't really map the control onto my mouse either. Is there a way to play this more accurately without having to go to the arcade?
Spinner is the ideal way to play emulating the Arcade. Pricey or a mod proposition though. Why won't the mouse work? You can enable it right in the front end if a particular game supports it, which Tempest does. Also while in game you can press TAB and cursor down to player one input, press enter then click the appropriate mouse button.

Another option is a Trakball, not quite a spinner but a cheaper option that also works great on all the Trakball games such as CENTIPEDE, REACTOR and MISSILE COMMAND

so I guess you're saying there's a PS1 Spinner then?
I think any game that supports a mouse can also support a home built Trakball. A simple matter of wiring just one of the internal wheel sensors. Only problem is you only get the one direction so limited to only left-right or up-down.

FYI CRT, the thread/original question is almost a year old. Where were you then!?

I found a $70 hacked rotary controller for sale for the Jag which looks quite nice, but seems pricey. The only info I could find on a PS1 spinner was here: http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.ph ... 04&start=0. Not sure of any other were made.

Haven't seen any for GC either, noise. I would bet there is an NES one, anad maybe SNES...

I've been on the lookout for a cheap and ugly Jag controller myself to make one. I already have an 2600 driving controller to hack apart.

Where'd you get the driving controller? Maybe I am not searching correctly, but they seem hard to come by on eBay...

Oop, wasn't even a member then.
Well maybe info some might use?

There is a SNES mouse. Sacrilegious to gut one as a spinner though. But can be worked into a spinner setup by just using one of the wheel sensors. I can't think of any SNES Mouse games that would use that one direction though.

Mame Arcade Spinner games worth the effort, TAC SCAN and TEMPEST especially. Easy to mod a PC ball mouse as pictured above using just the horizontal wheel and sensor. Maybe do a Bacteria mod, gutting a 2600 driving controller.

Noise, I know you rather stay Nintendo, but another option?
For Gamecube GCPlayer GBA Tempest, maybe PSX Trakball with PS1-GC adapter?

EDIT
Actually I don't think it would work. The PSX Trakball only works for PS1 Mouse games and is not analog compatible.

^that's one solution I came up with too. Although that PS1 trackball is pricey.

I'd love to find a SNES solution if possible. Anybody got any ideas???

OR most ideally, a Gamecube controller of somesort that would have a similar spinner feel as the old NES Arkanoid controller.
