Older. Not wiser.

Niode wrote:That GPU is one hell of a bottle neck on your system. I'd seriously consider upgrading it. The rest of the system is being dragged down by it. Even a 5770 will wipe the floor with the 9800GT and that's a £100 card in this country. Plus it will give you access to DX11 games. Don't bother with the new nVidia cards, they're overpriced for the performance you're getting. Much better bang for buck from the HD5850s/5870s. The new nvidia cards are almost 25% more expensive than the equivalent ATi card yet you only get a 10% boost in performance in a limited amount of games, there's quite a few games that actually perform worse than the ATi cards.
When I built this PC, about 2 years ago (I think), the 9800 was a good price to performance ratio. The real reason why I bought that card over others was that it came with a free copy of World at War
I don't game all that much on the PC, and when I do, it's usually older games anyway. I just needed a half way decent card to through in there for the time being. Eventually I'll upgrade, but I have no real reason to now.
My main goal when I built this PC was CPU power and RAM. And boy oh boy, this CPU is NUTS!

GeForce 8800GT 512M
250 Maxtor
300 Seagate
700 Seagate
Soundblaster X-Fi on Logitech X-540 surround

TSST DVD secondary for most disc reading
Cheapo wireless card
Logitech MX518 mouse on Everglide Cyborg mat
GYUM90SK (Dell branded) keyboard - Discrete switches, none of this rubber dome/membrane garbage

Haha, the 900 is a brilliant case. Bargain for the money. I just wish there was a way of turning those blue fan lights off. That top fan is fantastic though, keeps the ambient temps right down even on it's lowest setting. I keep all my fans on low and the system is whisper quiet, unless I crank the overclock up on my CPU and the Fenrir cranks the RPM up.Hobie-wan wrote:What a fantastic looking case you have there sir.Niode wrote:*snip*![]()

Indeed. I did have a well regarded, but basic Enlight case a few PCs ago, but most of mine have just been generic cases. When I read about the 900 I was intrigued. Then I saw it in CompUSSR and just had to jump on it even though it was brand new and still $150. I've never been a fan of side windows, but otherwise I love the case, blue lighting included. I prefer the looks of the V1 to the slightly redesigned V2 of the case.Niode wrote: Haha, the 900 is a brilliant case. Bargain for the money. Yeah V2's fan on top looks silly. Like the designer forgot to put it on the case design, then was told that the original had a big-ass fan on top and he promptly just plonked one on there for consistency. The V1 is better in my opinion.Hobie-wan wrote:Indeed. I did have a well regarded, but basic Enlight case a few PCs ago, but most of mine have just been generic cases. It's an Asus G72GX laptop.

I plan on dropping a SSD into the 2nd HDD bay and using that. The 5400rpm hard drive really slows down the performance, but I can still play most new games at above 30FPS as it is now.
