So I played the game finally and the gameplay is indeed stellar. The game is as good as advertised, and I see myself going back to it often. The last level gets quite tough, though, and seems unreasonably balanced compared to the others...

And as much as I enjoy the game, do the scantily clad teen/tweens bother anyone else? I know Japanese anime often has pedophiliac overtones, but I was a little uncomfortable with the suggestively dressed 11 and 13 year olds. Maybe it is because I am a father and now in my 30s, but I found it more than a little off putting. I am somewhat surprised that the game isn't at least garnering some controversy, or that the ages weren't changed. I'm not calling for this to happen, but I am a bit surprised it is flying under the radar.

My wife had a point though, when she said "well, at least she's seventeen" of the character with the whip.

I think the bigger concern is that Follet has a huge rack for a 14 year old. As for the last stage's difficulty, I think it's balanced based on the original arcade progression, where you can only do difficulty 1 or 2 twice. So the minimal difficulty run would be 1, 1, 2, 2, 3, 3, final.

Well as an Anime fan into the art since 1996 the current lolita/gothic lolita fad pisses me the hell off. Basically things went from stories with amazing plots and gorgeous animation to boobs and violence almost non-stop thanks to the desperation for the few remaining companies to milk the stagnating audience that actually pays for content instead of torrenting it.

You can chalk it up to morons on 4chan and the internet for the design and art choices that Cave took mostly, though. It made the game an easy sale to the salivating audience of desperate weeaboo idiots who want nothing but perverted and plot-less drivel and Cave made lots of cash for their other projects like Espgaluda II and Mushihimesama-Futari.

Didn't bother me really since I figure in anime they would look exactly the same no matter what age they are.

I credit fed my way through tonight on rank 2 throughout, took me three credits. I imagine it is going to take me several more hours of practice before I get a 1CC. The last dude is a bitch...and he isn't even the real last dude.

I've actually spent the last several years watching 2-3 shows per season while avoiding non-stop violence and gratuitous boobs. Maybe you're just looking at the wrong shows?

I really don't have a problem with the gothiloli fad by itself. Yeah, if the whole show is based on pandering then it's no good, but in the case of Deathsmiles you've got a great shmup that also has attractive chicks. That's win win in my book.

 I tend to about 3-5 shows per season and typically avoid the bad stuff whenever possible, but I'm just saying there's clearly a correlation between the two trends I mentioned.

My best run so far is 10,891,798 making it to 3-2. I have made it to the last level on one credit but my score was lower. That sore really sucks. I think I do not have even a basic understanding of the scoring system.

That is playing non MBL 360 mode.

Much improvement tonight.

48, 740,196 made it to the last dude and had him like 3/4 dead. The 1cc is mine soon. I want it damn it.

This is what I did...

B-1 rank 2
A-2 rank 3
A-1 rank 3
B-2 rank 2
C-1 rank 2
C-2 rank 1
then of course the castle which you do not get to pick a rank. I got the life refill for shooting the car but I was only missing a half a bubble, then I got an extend at 20mil and one at 45mil. This is playing regular 360 mode.

The top player in the score board has a score of almost 200mil. Crazy.

The high scoring technique is essentially thus:

Play rank 3 always. Build up your counter to 1000. Wait for a ton of bullets to hit the screen. Pop your power up. All bullets turn to crowns. Gather those crowns to give a quick boost to your secondary counter. Now orient yourself so you are constantly attacking with your familiar's shot, not your own. Familiar leeches skulls. After kills let the items bounce to turn into skulls (at a high + count you get more points by letting one silver crown turn to two skulls and collecting both). If you're good you time it so there are a ton of crowns/skulls on the screen when power up ends. Collect items and immediately get to 1000 counter again, and repeat (can't do in all levels).

Thanks for sharing that. I'm just getting my feet wet with the game but so far I'm totally digging.
