Deathsmiles coming to US thanks to Aksys

Having played Ketsui DS I'm calling bullshit on this one. The whole thing was a boss rush of Ketsui in various forms, and several of those bosses were nasty as hell.

Call BS all you want. I found it to be lacking. I thought it would be hard to play the game on such a small screen but when I got it you realize that your hitbox is probably one pixel in size.

It may surprise you guys to hear me say this, but I agree with Octopod on this. I'm not good at bullet hell shmups (I normally play horis) and I've been able to blow through this game (except for the Doom Mode). I'd hate to see how easily a competent bullet hell shmup player can play this game.

I've been interested in this game for a while, and I just found out today that it got released two days ago. So, I bought it, initially just to support Cave, not really expecting anything special outside of your average SHMUP. Then I started playing it, and I actually was enjoying it! I played it for a few hours today [a lot for a SHMUP!], and it is now one of the few games in the genre I have beaten, and the only one I have beaten multiple times. I'm really glad I got the game, and I just hope that Cave will continue to release more shooters outside Japan.

I really wish I had a way to own this game. I don't have the cash right now, but I also don't even have a 360. At least UFO has it here in town. I could easily sit there all day and play it. It's such an easy going shmup, but gets challenging when it counts.

Why do there character models look like shit? Everything else looks good. I guess it doesn't really matter. I plan on making a highscore thread for the game if anyone wants to participate.

I see they look different playing 360 mode. What game mode are you guys playing in?

When I was playing I usually played Mega Black Label mode (360). The graphics are nicer and the points get huge (since your counter doesn't reset after power up).

I picked this up this week, and it is awesome that many more can finally play this great game. I had to bite the bullet and purchase from Gamestop (despite the fact that I hate shopping there), as no other stores were selling it in my area. It is very cool to see what the story is in english, and to find out that it was somewhat different from what I assumed based solely on the visuals when playing the Import version.

For those who care about such, the game actually says "Deathsmiles NA" (For Deathsmiles North American Version) in the played games list on my Xbox Live Account. The Mega Black Label content is included, but this means the game only has 1000 Gamerscore in this version as opposed to over 1000 for Japanese version + DLC. I haven't determined yet which achievements were removed, but there are fewer in the Region 1 release.

The upside to this, however, is that people who own both the Import and Domestic versions can get the achievements twice, as they count as separate games on your achievements list. May not matter to some, but it is a nice incentive to buy both versions and support the genre when you can at least be awarded gamerscore twice for both versions.

Just as a side note to the whole hating Gamestop piece, the guy tried to tell me I should have pre-ordered because I "Missed out" on the pre-order exclusive soundtrack I could have gotten. What a jerk, it comes WITH the game. Then, when I asked about Dragon Quest VI for DS, he pointed at a poster for Dragon Quest IX and told me that was it, but that the numbers were quote "All messed up like with Final Fantasy" and he didn't know why they did that. I told him no to signing up for an Edge card at checkout, and he took my credit card and signed me up for it anyway despite my answer of no. I'll end my rant pre-maturely here, but I really hate that place, and the liars and BSers that work there. I know there are good people who work for them out there, but none of those stores in my area are anywhere I want to frequent...

This isn't just against store poilicy IT'S ILLIEGAL. Go back and demand a refund or I'll call corporate personally and make raise hell on your behalf whether you want me to or not. That shit isn't right no matter how you put it.

I went back and looked in the bag that my stuff was in, it wasn't EDGE, it is some "Powered Up" card or something that he forcibly signed me up for. Is that different? I dunno, I don't frequent Gamestop enough to know or care. They are a "Last resort" only destination for me, as I hate them so much I try hard to never give them my business if I can help it. The jerk just shook his head at me because I didn't want to pre-order some new Fallout game or something, and these pony-tailed, simpsons comic book shop guy look alikes generally make my blood boil too much anyway..

I hate being told what I am buying isn't a good choice, compared to whatever BS FPS these losers are hyped up on currently. I'll take a good shmup anyday. I remember back when MegaMan X5 came out on PS1, I was the ONLY Pre-order at Gamestop, and got hassled when I went to pick it up because it was quote "Why are you buying a crappy PS1 game for your PS2, when you could pick up Red Faction 2??!!"

I just hate Gamestop because of these people who don't know jack about games, and don't care that my tastes don't mirror their own.

The power-up card is the new name for the Edge card as it's being re-branded to coincide with GS's new marketing but it's still the exact same thing.

Anyhow, go in and ask for their district manager's number and talk to them (typically very effective at resolving your issue instantly as DM's are about keeping customers from calling corporate and getting them in trouble) or directly give corporate a call and try to get your complaints through there. Calling corporate typically doesn't get much done, but it's a step if the DM ignores you.

EDIT!: Seriously though don't let these guys walk over you, they STOLE YOUR money just so that they would look better on that week's numbers which is both illegal and a dick move.
