I usually played with all fatties. I never really felt like I had enough control over my team to make having a mixed team particularly helpful, so I just had four completely interchangeable guys. Also, I guess I didn't really play it very seriously, and rarely ever played one-player mode.

i tried playing with all the fatties and it didn't work out for me. then i try playing with all the skinnies....not quite right (too fast). so balance is the best attack.

I really liked NHL 93... but NHL 94 is where that shit was AMAZING. I had several ports of 94. I've been hoping to find NHL 2002 for GBA for quite some time now. It's not especially rare, but I never seem to happen upon it.

Yup. NHL '94 on Sega CD is awesome, but wasn't NHL '93 called NHLPA 93?

I don't remember. I know I had 93 for SNES, and 94 for Genesis AND Sega CD.
