For the love of god man, what is wrong with sports game companies and football? I went down to the bargain bin at Game Stop, and I picked up NFL 2K3 on the PS2. It was not even worth the $0.99 I payed for it. Gah, I was looking for a game that could be closer to 2K2's style of gameplay but with the enhanced graphics of later 2K games. (I'm a big fan of the 2K series) What I got was a total disaster pressed onto a DVD. They took the 2K2 engine, made running imposible, created the "miracle function" (I'll explain later) and made the teams extremely lop-sided. I'm an Oakland fan, so I was thinking "Cool, the Raiders were awesome when this game was made!" but sadly I found that it didn't matter what team I picked. Not only is this thing completely different from the other 2K games, but it is also terribly boring. When I broke away from the pack and went running for yards in earlier games, I shouted "Yes! Touchdown!" and called my brother over to watch. In this game, I would think "Man, I might have just gotten myself into
field goal range!"
This problem is even more evident in my own room, because my Dreamcast has no way currently to hook up with my TV, so I have to play the PS2 games. The best of those is 2K5. On PS2 I also have Madden games, but me playing those is like me appearing as a victim in the next Saw movie. These games also have the game-killing "miracle function".
And now to explain my biggest complaint with all Madden games, and 2K3, the "miracle function" (Dundunduuunnnnnn) This is where the computer bypasses all previous limits set by the player and uses its most powerful logic to make huge plays at critical moments. (On there own two yard line, Woodson to make the sack, he dumps the ball off right, juggled, he's caught it, no-one in front of him, mid field, and they finally push him out after a 60 yard run)... Imagine that 3 times a game. I really think someone should try to make a game that's fun about now... Anyone else get burned by football games? Does this "miracle function" actually happen? Or do you even care?
