The real problem is the cost of the system. If I have no intention of buying $60 games and just want to stick to XBLA content, how can I justify $300 on the system?

Same here. And I have a similar issue with the Wii. My only real motivation to pick one up is for Wii Sports, Wario Ware, and eventually Brawl, but I can't justify the price of the system for that yet.

Frankly, I don't see anything on XBLA that couldn't be done with a much less powerful system. I wonder if there would be any room in the market for a game system that operated solely on downloadable games and was thus powerful enough for them, but not necessarily a technological monstrosity.

And no, I don't mean the Phantom :)

Before I read your last sentence, I was getting ready to say, "you mean like the Phantom?"

Huzzah, The Phantom strikes again. As much as I hate to say it, I have similar feelings toward the 360. Out of all the games available the vast majority are downloadable, with a handful of actual games. Then again I do own some seven or so Wii games...

I haven't heard of the Phantom. Looked it up on wiki and looked up on their site but I couldn't find any of the games that they have on available on it. What kinda stuff is on it?

That's the thing, it was never released. The company kept hyping it year after year and it was supposed to be only have downloadable games or something like that.
It's a perfect example of vaporware.
Rumor is that it was a scam to get investors to give them money with no intention to actually produce anything.
