A 2-3 year old refurb will still cost almost as much as a brand new laptop with an i5/i7. Not worth it. Besides you can run OSX on any PC with very little effort.

That thing is huge. If you actually expect to carry it around without at all, I'd suggest getting something smaller.

*EDIT* OK, I'm afraid the above sounds like I'm trying to pick on you. But seriously, I've only owned laptops for about the past ten years. I made the mistake of buying a cheap acer with a 15.4" screen once. It really is too big and annoying to haul around, though I did what I had to do. It didn't help that the build quality on it sucks as well. I'm actually typing this on it, but it's no longer my daily work computer.

I don't know if you're in college or going to college or what you mean, school-wise. If you're studying graphic design or something, you might actually need the extra screen size. Otherwise, I seriously do recommend getting something more manageable.

For school my favorite is the PowerBook G4 12", great little machine.

All graphics cards are supported (even the brand new radeon 5xxx series). All audio on laptops follow the same AC97 standard which are all supported, 90% of wireless "cards" are supported. Your point is moot. Regarding Apple Support, meh, experience overcomes that.

A little research on a topic should be mandatory before spouting off some bullshit.

Al off my PC's and laptops run OSX with zero issues, my main PC even runs an AMD processor, does Apple "support" those? No of course not, does it work perfectly fine? Yes, yes it does.

I myself have a hackintosh so don't tell me what I do and don't know. I've had problems with all of those in my experience.

Just need to find the right kext pack which is a simple forum search in my experience. It's true that some of the Intel boards, mainly in the last 2-3 years have had rather large issues with OSX. Niode can attest to that, but for the majority of hardware it will work perfectly fine.

Also I typed that because your posts make you seem to be a raving mac fanatic. Most mac people cant get past the fact all that's different in their magic box is software. So, sorry if I offended you.
