Exactly. Also that way we prevent the "mouse vs pad" debate all the time, because it's boring.Octopod wrote:That is why it needs to be a computer forum rather than PC. Also there's a sizable number of retro-PC gamers in this forum and I think we are missing some beautiful discussions.

so where would you put games like Deus Ex, which have strong FPS and RPG elements?BlackDS wrote:Shmup

Too much pigeon holing just over-complicates discussion, I don't' want to have to sit there for a while thinking of what forum my thread should go in.

Re: Nominate New Genre Categories for the Forum
Differentiating between shoot em ups and cute em ups seems rediculous too. They're the same genre. I wouldn't seperate Paper Mario and Koudelka because one is a serious RPG and the other is cute and upbeat - they're still both RPGs.
Re: Nominate New Genre Categories for the Forum
With the possible exception of Platformers, I don't think we need many new genre forums. Perhaps this could work:
Shooters (shmups, FPS, run-n-guns, etc.)
RPGs
Fighters
Platformers
Other Genres (anything that doesn't fit above: point-n-click, text, adventure, etc.)
It would change the number of genre forums from 3 to 5, which is a pretty substantial increase. Any more would become unwieldy.

I really like that idea. Sometimes I'm not sure where to post about games that don't fit in the current categories, but also don't fit with the Nintendo/Sega/Sony-MS structure. Like, if I were to talk about Megaman X as a series. It's been all over the place.dsheinem wrote:With the possible exception of Platformers, I don't think we need many new genre forums. Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

I'm against this personally. First it's a PC forum, than it's articles about PC games. This happened with the HG101 site and I know certain people on this forum are annoyed by that.General_Norris wrote:I think the only neccesary forum would be a PC forum. Nothing else.
I still view this site as a console gaming site. The only PC talk of any interest to me concerns things like emulation, copying games, etc. I don't hate PC gaming, I actually have played a few PC games, but it's of far less interest to me than console gaming and I think PC gaming should have its own dedicated site, with sub forums of its own I think. It's certainly got enough history to warrant one and PC gaming has always been its own thing, very different from console gaming despite the number of games that have been ported back and forth between consoles and PC.
But if we go this direction, I'll accept it.

I think we need a Computers sub section, which will have PC/MAC/C64/Amiga/Amstrad ect. ect.Gamerforlife wrote:I'm against this personally. First it's a PC forum, than it's articles about PC games. Re: Nominate New Genre Categories for the Forum
I think the hacks and mods section and the tech help section should be merged into one, just my own view.
As for new categories, I don't see the point in giving game genres there own section, the same with game devs.
If I would have to pick anything it would be a Indy Games section.
