Another bug in the ear, remember all the Encarta annual must buy CDs that took over the bookshelf?
Wait there was also "Book Shelf" CD Rom. Online now, maybe eventually Google Docs might do the same?
Man I hope not ........

I have 2007 and 2010 on my netbook and stay-at-home laptop respectively. I would have stayed with 2003 but the offers that students get for the super version of office is a bit difficult to pass up. I recieved 2007 ultimate for $59.99 and 2010 professional plus for $72.50. I saved a chunk of change no matter how you look at it. I use open office but only as a portable app.

I've been using Office 2000 for 10 years now and never saw a need to upgrade. I can type my documents just fine with this one. Unless 2010 added some new letters or symbols or something that I'm not aware of.

I do very little word processing these days. When I do it's basic corporate/professional stuff - proposals, reports, graphs. Boring shit. Microsoft Office is complete and total overkill for what I need. I'd be lucky to use even 5% of the features.

Add to that the fact that I'm a Linux desktop user by choice (only using Microsoft or Apple products when on customer sites that don't use Linux desktops), and Open Office is my choice of office suite on all three platforms.

Speaking for myself, I don't see the value in paying for something so commodity, particularly when I don't need 95% of the features. (And I don't download/torrent non-free software).

I really don't know why would any one pay the high price of Microsoft Office.

Office '98 did power-point, word processing and excel, what are the yearly upgrades they are doing?
I think there was office for mac in the late 80's that is still perfectly good for the use of most people's needs.

In addition, I always found Office to be over-complexed and there might be simpler solutions.
Not to mention free alternatives exists like Openoffice for example.

So I am not sure why would I want to pay so much , especially on almost yearly upgrades

My copies have been moved to cds and across different computers for 10 years without actual installs so it doesn't seem to work. I remember microsoft word pinball or whatever it was though.
