Microsoft Office 2010 and beyond!!!, or backwards...

Post by casterofdreams »

So next marks the retail release of Microsoft Office 2010. I know it isn't much to get excited about but I like new things like this so call me weird. I have the full version of Professional Plus (Ultimate in 2007 "language") due to getting a deep discount through school. For the most part it is really great. It's quick and cleaner IMO than 2007. Also a great feature is the ability to open any file on any web browser to edit and view the file anywhere.

So does anyone plan on getting 2010 or are they sticking with what they got such as Office 2007, 2003 or Open Office?

I have 2002, Letters still type out the same, don't see why latest is needed.

I have the beta and I like it well enough. I haven't used it much, Onenote continues to be great, and word is better than the previous version. I don't know if I'll upgrade, I'll more likely just try to keep the beta working.

I think I have 02 as well, and I never saw a reason to upgrade. What changed? Nothing, just moved around a few options to make me have to look for it and waste time!

But I noticed this "ribbon" thing that they're doing, kinda makes the new version worth getting compared to other releases. I noticed that Word Pad and Paint also have the ribbon type menus now too.

Made me look and drool, nice but not worth a whole new upgrade expense.

2007 Ribbon a new toolbar to replace old?

Wait... there's a 2010 version?! Since when?!?

I guess this is what I get for sticking with Windows XP and Office 2003, and deliberately not paying attention to anything new that came out after that... Office 2007 annoyed the heck out of me with its ribbon, and that was all that the computers at my college had, so I spent many many days lugging my laptop with me to every class in order to get anything done.

'07 is really nice. I hope '10 is has something that makes it worth upgrading to as I am sure my school will switch over.

Well I probably wont be buying a new version of MS Office any time soon, but I think the ribbon bar is a nice step forward in a new direction. MS Office has had the same interface for a while, and I don't even know what changed in various new versions, so I think it's about time that Microsoft is finally actually trying to improve the functionality of the software.

But yeah, I'm not usually one to always grab the newest version. It's kinda like text books, every year a new edition. What changed? Why does NYS have a new Regent review book for classes like Social Studies? I was unaware that history changes every year! I can understand thenology text books changing, like computers and whatnot, but yearly editions of text books for English and Social Studies classes is just a way to make money.

I'm still using Photoshop 6, I've not seen a reason to upgrade until recently. For example, I'll download templates from The Cover Project and get errors opening it up. But I'm running off on a tangent now.
