5) Chrono Cross - Loved the music, and I actually really enjoyed it's battle system compared to other RPGs at the time.

4) Street Fighter Alpha 3 - I loved the World Tour mode that was added for the PS release.

3) Rival Schools - CRAZY. 'nuff said!

2) Jumping Flash! - At the time, it took platforming to a totally different level. Still fun to play today!

1) Battle Arena Toshinden 2 - I love the cheesey, 80's power-metal infused j-pop music.

**note: I didn't include Final Fantasy VII, VIII, IX, or Castlevania: SotN due to the sheer fact that everybody for the most part has a soft spot in their gaming hearts for those classics!

If I had to pick five.

Final Fantasy Tactics - If you like Final Fantasy, strategy, and laughing at super serious storylines this is a must own!

Castlevania Syphony of the Night - A masterpiece of a Castlevania. Although it plays more like Super Metroid than Castlevania, full of exploration, occasionally stopping for talking sections, and of course, awesome boss battles.

Suikoden 2 - All other RPGs are nothing compared to Suikoden 2. Six person battle system, epic storyline worthy of a martial arts movie, and sprites on 3D hardware. This is what I want from video games.

Metal Gear Solid: Tactical Espionage Action - I got a demo disc from pizza hut that had this. Never heard anything about it or seen anything about it, and got to experience the first bit of what some argue is the best game ever. If the graphics bother you, there is a remake on the gamecube! Just be warned the cutscenes are changed to be more like a slow motion action movie on the gamecube!

Resident Evil 2 - Two discs for two versions of the same story. On one disc, you play as Leon S. Kennedy a rookie cop dealing with the undead as best he can. On the other, you're Claire Redfield a biker chick looking for her cop brother, dealing with the undead by using a crossbow! And whats more, if you finish the game you can play an alternate scenario of the other character! Plus plus, you can unlock secret mini games with a character called "Hunk" and "Tofu" that are the best mini games ever.

I'm one of those who didn't get Klonoa. The reviews back in the days weren't exactly stellar, and when I put the sequel on my HDD I couldn't bother to get past the first stage. I like platformers but Klonoa just wasn't for me.. maybe the distracting 3D element was to blame?

And don't get me started on 3D platformers.. I liked Ratch & Clank and Sonic Adventure 1-2 (at their respective time of release), but the rest just doesn't look interesting.

Hm, to each his own I guess. The 3D element is a bit distracting in Klonoa I guess, but I like the added sense of depth.

In my mind though, Klonoa games have some of the most brilliant level design. A lot of games have you bumbling around trying to collect everything and you waste a lot of time doing so. In Klonoa games, the little gems that you collect appear in nice lines that actually encourage you to run and jump through them quickly. The gems serve not only as a way of picking up collectibles and gaining points, but they also highlight some of the best routes to run through. I really like games like this because I often feel like I should collect everything in platform games like this, but it usually takes too long and I get bored before I complete a level. In Klonoa, the gem collecting goes hand-in-hand with completing the level because the gems mark the best/fastest path to travel to the end (usually). This encourages speed runs and game completion, and in helps give the game a sense of flow. That's what I love about Klonoa.
