Depending of how the word "lost" can be define,
I wouldn't say the ending was a cop-out, and it may take a while to sink in of all we went through in the last 6 years.
Would be interesting to see the "alternative" endings.
Some are just to throw out rumors, others maybe real but changed at the final production.
So a good question is who will buy the entire series on Blu-ray?

Re: Lost final season
I'm pretty satisfied. I'm good. They brought most everything to an end. I'm still not a fan of the whole "light cave" thing and I wish they would never have introduced it, but in the end it didn't end up carrying that much meaning. It was just a thing to do.
When you think about it, it ended as much like a video game as a TV show. There have been echoes of Myst and other adventure games through the whole series.

(Spoilers continue.)
The ending is only a cop out because I feel like the entire season was. It felt very disjointed, especially if you consider the event that started the second reality in the first place. It was all conveniently placed to make the final events possible, despite the fact that the process to get there was pulled out of thin air.
It seems clear, both because of the producer commentary and the things said in the episode, that the "island" was the true timeline. We can also deduce, because of all the pairing that was confirmed in the "second reality," that the island acted as a kind of destiny. It took various miserable people, put them on a miserable island, and made it possible for them to be together in the afterlife. Six seasons of episodes all to lead to a handful of people having a happy afterlife. The events of the final episode would have meant nothing if not for the events of the latter half of season five and on. All that happened before then was mostly happenstance. That doesn't bother anyone?
I agree with the sentiment of it feeling like a video game narrative, in the sense that it felt every bit as convoluted and disjointed as the narrative of any game I've ever played.

Depending on how one views Lost, this was either a great ending or a lousy one. If you watch the show because you care about the characters, it was a good ending. If you've watched all this time for answers to all the big mysteries....well....um....yeah....
They basically didn't answer ANYTHING.

Re: Lost final season
I'm choosing not to think about it quite that hard.
In in the end, it came down to a simple idea: We're all in this together, and we depend upon each other to move on toward better things in life. I really don't give a shit about all the other questions.

Re: Lost final season
I liked a number of characters (about as well as I could, anyway, considering the writing), and I'm well aware that it's impossible to answer every question while retaining integrity. I still think the episode was mediocre. As much as I can care about any fictional character (and I do care - little improves fiction more to me than good character development), I still realize they're fictional, so when pushed I'm no less aware of shoddy narrative when I see it.Gamerforlife wrote:Depending on how one views Lost, this was either a great ending or a lousy one. Re: Lost final season
I've never watched the show, but I'm enjoying all the spoilers and articles talking about the finale. To someone who has no idea what any of it actually means, this show sounds absolutely rediculous. I just imagine some guy, with the entire 6 years of the show in his head, trying to pitch it to a studio as a single movie and everyone staring at him wondering what drugs he's on. "yeah, there's this island, and an alternate reality, and then there's these polar bears. . . and then superman fights them at the north pole".
Re: Lost final season
I'm watching the finale now and typing this during a commercial break. Jack and Lock just faced off by the boat and it cut to commercial. Did anyone think this was just like the intro to Ninja Gaiden?
So far the finale is awesome. I hope it wraps up well.
