VHS as a medium
Re: VHS as a medium
VCR great as a second TV tuner on the split screen with your chameleon eyes, that is if you have cable.

AnyDVD supposedly removes all that DMCA nonsense, but unlike the best things in life it isn't free

Ahhh VHS my old nemesis. I've been an I.T. guy long enough that I used to deal with VCR's a lot and I don't miss them at all. It's been posted already that DVD is better sound and quality but don't forget that VCR's were ever needy tedious things that liked to break a lot.
Remember these VCR problems
Tape is wound in VCR and won't eject
Screen flickers and has lines because of tracking sensor problems
Worn out rewind motors wouldn't rewind movies
Bad quality tapes bled through things that were previously taped over
I understand your nostalgia but I tossed out my VCR the day DVD players got under $100 and I will never pick up another VHS as long as I live.

You really needed to buy one of the independent rewind machines.

For DVDs? The man vows not to touch VHS again, so it'd have to be for DVDs.Octopod wrote:You really needed to buy one of the independent rewind machines.

Im a free lance audio engineer. I like using VHS as a poor mans tape machine. I use Protools to record the audio and then I bounce Stereo mixes of drums and bass to the VHS. That way they get some analog tape saturation and then I record them back into Protools. I don't do this all the time but its fun to do and listen to the differences.

I was just listing common problems with VCR's that I used to deal with at work. I had one of those re-winders that looked like a corvette at home.Octopod wrote:You really needed to buy one of the independent rewind machines.

I remember those! Nice to have regardless as it was a little bit faster.nikon_62 wrote:I was just listing common problems with VCR's that I used to deal with at work. rewinders were a must if I remember. My family used exclusively a VCR up until 2004. My younger siblings still use the VCR though, mainly for the superior version of Star Wars.
