i respect your own opinion for your own beat em up top list and i wouldn't try to change your mind either. everybody's top list is different. so what is the number one beat em up on your list then? or you can give me your top three.Gamerforlife wrote:Only because those two series are so overrated. since the FF vs SOR debate ended around post number 3, what does everybody think about castle crashers? where would you all rank that? better than FF/SOR?
also, i absolutely love in SOR3 when axel screams "bare knuckle."
what does blaze scream when she does her run + attack button move?
if you took a shit, please put it back

I prefer SoR to Final Fight personally. For me though, the king of BMU's is Undercover Cops. The SNES version is alright I guess but the arcade version is great. The two D&D BMU's are pretty great too.

Have any of you guys played the Bare Knuckle 3 English translation? If you wanted to love SOR3 but couldn't, play that. I actually have been thinking about getting a repro cart of BK3 for awhile now.

Castle Crashers plays quite a bit differently than FF or SOR. It has a lot of rpg elements to it, while FF and SOR are just straight up, no nonsense beat'em ups.final fight cd wrote:after re-checking, it is a ?.Assman wrote:What? For overall fun factor though, I think I did enjoy Castle Crashers more than any FF or SOR game personally. It's funnier, has way more personality and arguably has more replay value. One thing I like about Castle Crashers is that it is a balanced game. One thing I hated about Behemoth's previous game Alien Hominid was how cheap and badly designed it was and one thing I hate about Streets of Rage 2 is the god awful elevator stage where you're almost guaranteed to lose at least one life, especially on any difficulty setting above normal. Castle Crashers has its crazy moments, like the battle with the Necromancer, but never really throws more at you than you can handle, especially when you have healing potions on hand
I always tell people who are interested in Castle Crashers to check out The Dishwasher Samurai. That game has been criminally ignored. It's a lot of fun. It's actually sort of like a 2-d version of Devil May Cry or any modern Ninja Gaiden game. It's hard as hell, but the difficulty evens out as you acquire certain weapons and moves...like that awesome chainsaw

I've always been impartial to the SoR series. Played the crap out of 2 as a kid, so I would have to take SoR anyday. I want to play more of the final fight series though.

You know, I had to really think about that for a while. If we stick to just 2-d beat'em ups...sevin0seven wrote:i respect your own opinion for your own beat em up top list and i wouldn't try to change your mind either. everybody's top list is different. so what is the number one beat em up on your list then? or you can give me your top three.Gamerforlife wrote:Only because those two series are so overrated. Sengoku 3 is one I am really impressed by. I never actually finished it, but I love the graphics, the fantastic combo system, the magic attacks. More skilled players than I can pull off some impressive stuff in this game.
Capcom has a number of quality ones that are hard to choose from, but I think D&D: Shadow over Mystara and Battle Circuit represent some of their best work. So it's tough to choose between them
Ninja Warriors Again is a personal favorite of mine. I love it for not playing by any beat'em up genre rules. Instead of giving you a crappy little life bar that will be gone after just a few attacks and a bunch of extra lives to burn through, you get one long life bar and no extra lives. Unlike a lot of beat'em ups, you can block attacks in Ninja Warriors Again. I also love that Ninja Warriors Again gives you a screen clearing attack that DOESN'T use up your health, but it's not always available so you got to know when to use it. Also, Ninja Warriors Again has three distinct characters who all play COMPLETELY differently. It's a very balanced, polished, well put together game and it has a good soundtrack too. And it has other cool little touches, like picking up large objects like motorcycles and throwing them at your enemies, or flipping through the air as a helicopter flies by razing the ground with gun fire. The dramatic slow mo as you get the last hit on a boss is another nice touch. Awesome, awesome game. Too bad they removed the female ninja enemies from the US version.
I have to throw in a mention for TMNT IV on the S-NES. It's an easy game, but it's got a decent selection of moves, great use of mode 7 effects, some original attacks(like the ground slam or tossing your enemy towards the player), and quite frankly, when you look at all the little additions and improvements Konami made over the arcade version, it is one of the best arcade ports ever made, actually surpassing the original in my opinion

Plus, when the cyborg ninja's combo reaches four or five, he does a torso-twisting, elbow-sickle slicing, bad-ass move! That alone sold me on Ninja Warriors years ago. I like the arcade original too. Pretty straightforward, but the double-screen and player character dropping to their knees before exploding just grabbed me in the arcade.

My friend at the time was quite found of that character. I always loved Kunoichi, as I generally always like playing as a kick ass female. Plus, her jump kick was great for bouncing back and forth between enemies and not getting surroundedZenLogikos wrote:Plus, when the cyborg ninja's combo reaches four or five, he does a torso-twisting, elbow-sickle slicing, bad-ass move! Here's some links to show how cool Sengoku 3 and Shador over Mystara are. One is a link to a great track from Sengoku 3 that must be heard.
Sengoku 3
Shadow Over Mystara(fun combo vids)
Gotta give Battle Circuit some love too
