This game ate about 3 years of my life, really dangerously addictive. My ex-girl friend who literally was a recovered crack addict said it was easier to get off crack then Diablo
I bet this rings true for a lot of people, myself included.

My top three would be:

World of Warcraft
Amplitude
Diablo (1 or 2 really, I spent a lot of time on both)

I think I could add Defender and Mario Kart DS to the list.
Defender was frustrating at times, but it begged you to give it anothr try.
Mario Kart DS is just plain fun and trying to get 1st place so you can unlock new courses added to the addiction factor.

Over the years, i've played and completed many many games, I got addicted to the Zelda games. I've played through LTTP about 4 times from start to finish. That's just playing in my spare time though, from when I had loads when I was young to the odd couple of hours I can squeeze in when I can. I wouldn't class that as addictive.

The one game that had me addicted for months and months was Crazy Taxi. I got that the day it came out. I didn't put it down until I was scoring 70k+ every time I played it (standard arcade mode, low traffic, high time, competition rules basically). I played that game so much the fingerprint on my right thumb wore off. It never came back properly…

It's annoying knowing that I have every single fare and the entire map imprinted in my mind somewhere. Especially when I need to remember birthdays/anniversaries etc. All I can come up with is old lady on roof out of car park, Green 1200 fare, 40 seconds limit wants to go to bus terminal.

Disagea: Hour of Darkness. A couple of years ago, I played it for almost two days straight without sleep until I crashed from fatigue. The thing was, I had to go to defensive driving the very next day. Slept through most of that and still managed to pass. Of course, I had taken defensive driving 3 or 4 times before that.

I'm definitely with you on that one. I spent about two straight days myself with Laharl and Company great strategy/rpg game. Up there with Final Fantasy Tactics IMO. Have you played Disgaea 2? Thinking about picking that up wondering if you've played it what you thought.

Other games that I've played for days on end:
Final Fantasy Tactics
Romance of Three Kingdoms VII
Sega Bass Fishing (Has me contemplating getting the Dreamcast fishing rod.)
Civilization II

Most Recently:
Raiden Trad-I beat the game yesterday but still I keep going back for more and more. I can't get enough of this game right now. I think I'm addicted to it, I need my daily fix even if it's just a flythrough or two I need those 15 minutes of it.

I have Disgaea 2. I don't know if it is because I am older or the game is more of the same, but I didn't like it as much as the first one. I think the first one has more charm to it.

I did play FFT til 3 or 4 in the mornings. Damn those special items. Just gotta get them all.

Sega Bass Fishing?!? Are you serious man??? You gotta go fishing in real life man. It is hella fun. Love doing that in the summer.

As for raiden trad, may I recommend getting the Raiden Project collection on PS1 and with the game genie code, play it on TATE mode. My favorite is Raiden 2, love that squiggly purple laser. :P

I was hooked on Viva Pinata when I started playing it. That game was more charming and endearing than I was prepared for. I didn't stop until I got every pinata and achievement and I still has some loose ends to tie up one of these days. It's pretty much the only thing that has made getting the 360 worthwhile as there is very little else I have played on it

Starcraft is one of the few PC games to really hook me. When I played it many years ago I didn't stop until I beat it and then I fired up Brood Wars and worked my way through that as well. It is the only PC RTS game I ever really played and I feel like it's the only one I needed to play as it was just that damn good.

I LOVE Sly Cooper games and can't put one down until it's finished. I also obsess over getting and powering up every weapon in a Ratchet and Clank game(and beating all the arena challenges, which is the quite frankly the best parts of the games). If I ever get a PS 3, that R&C game will be my first purchase. Platformers are one of my fave genres so it's easy for them to hook me in. I feel in love with Mischief Makers on the N64 and played it to death.

If we ever get a REAL modern Starfox game. I will play it until I have mastered it and made it my bitch.

The Red Star was a game that really hooked me and I still go back and play it every now and then. I think many people missed out on EX mode. It makes a real difference and is worth checking for anyone who beat the game on normal and put it back on the shelf. The game moves faster, attacks do more damage to you and I think bullets come at you faster in some situations.

For some reason I got obsessed with SSX Tricky and Shinobi(PS2)when I played them years ago. My SSX file has all gold medals, boards and maxed stats for everybody. With Shinobi, I unlocked everything and S ranked every stage and I have the mental scars to last a lifetime as a result.

Resident Evil 4, god that game owned my life for awhile. I did it all in that game and it's one of those games I know I'll go back to one day and pull it off the shelf.

Disgaea 2-Oh god, that game was just unhealthy for me. I did almost everything. I even got multiple perfect weapons and anyone who has invested serious time into the game knows what a pain making those is. As much as I love Disgaea 2, it's a sick mind that came up with that game. It's crazy and insane how much there is to do in that game and how infuriating some of it is(pirate hunting and perfect weapon making). Disgaea 2 is one of those games that made me realize I need to play less rpgs. It's just not healthy how much time the perfectionist in me can squeeze out of one.

It's interesting typing this up, as I have cut back so much on my gaming in the past two to three months. You could say I haven't been addicted to anything in quite some time.
